I just had my first glass of GoLytly! YUMM YUMM!
As a 4 time vet of the procedure I recommend the following:
CHUG it down so fast you can barely taste it. If you try to sip it you’ll never get it all down.
Citrus flavor has worked best for me by far. Drink it cold; warm just intensifies the bad taste.
Also while taking it, NEVER trust a fart. Immediately after the procedure you’ll be bloated with air like an over inflated tire, best not to trust a fart then either.
Good luck.
Also, some inside information. If the physician asks you to relax your anus (rectum), know that it is a trick question. It is not normal to be able to relax your rectum, unless you have conditioned it to receive foreign bodies, as often seen in homosexuals (not that there is anything wrong with that).
There is a virtual colonscopy, but many insurances will not cover it, and it is expensive, depending on the provider.
Not as bad as the horror stories say it is. Just be sure to drink the stuff at room temperature.

I had my first about a year ago, and might I add, it was my last.
You’ll see.
Good luck.
Desitin, stat!
It worked.
And pick a flavor you don’t like. You’ll wind up bait shy for the one you used in the prep.
I will always remember my first time. What was it like? I was ready to beat my fists into the wall it was sooo painful.
It was so bad that I didn’t go back for at least 10 years. The next time they did it I was unconscious and I spent 2 weeks in the hospital because they found the big “C”. Now I go every 3 years, its nothing, the worst is drinking that crap the night before. They knock you out for about 15 minutes, you wake up and its done, then you go home and get something to eat.
Suggestions? Yeah, STFU about it. Last thing I want is to hear about it. Ranks right up there with actually doing the cleaning out for it.
;^)
I couldn’t finish that whole container of liquid. The procedure went without a hitch...was easy. My wife and her best friend were there and had a lot of laughs at my expense.
“You can run, but you can’t hide” from the “One-Eyed-Black-Snake”! Drink the prep chilled with some Crystal-Lite. Go-Lytlely is kids stuff, Fleets Phosopho Soda had to be taken while sitting on the bowl. Mira-Lax is sissy pansy stuff, my colon laughed it off. You may get some weakness and flu like symptoms but once that propofol reaches your brain it’s all worth it.
There is a non-invasive colonoscopy, but the prep is virtually hthe same for both invasive and non. Since the non-invasive is so expensive and not as for sure as the invasive most insurance won’t cover it.
Also, I’ve heard that if something is found on the non-invasive, they want to do the regular one to double-check so then you’re messed over twice.
Don’t fart.
It may be greasy.
“They IVed the sedative but I have a strong threshhold and I told them I could taste it. It was also cold.”
I’ve been put out a number of times - I feel the cold in my vein, then I’m out. Have never tasted it. I go out fast.
I was supposed to have mine Tuesday. Spent last week in a hospital room because of a hand injury, so I am off the hook until June.
I would have gleefully traded the day on the toilet for having a finger mangled.
You have to watch out for the lumps in the passed gas. If in doubt stay close to the potty. Thats a one way street and your Doc is going to be bucking traffic. They found 1 polyp, removed it and said see ya in 5 years. Good Luck.
Whoever takes you to have it done.....explain to them that while you are recovering from the anesthesia.....you will be asking them the same questions over and over, again. LOL! That ‘versed’ (sp) makes you lose short-term memory for a few hours. My hubby was quite amusing. I was to the point of pre-taping my response. :)
Good luck! You’ll be fine.
Here's hoping you have good report.
