Ok Pounds to Lose, Need a Diet, Diabeitic Friendly Meal Replacer...Obamacare Employer Requiring Loss
6/27/13 | Chickensoup

OK, I put on some kid and stess pounds and need to lose it. The Slimfast diet always worked for me but now I am prediabetic and trying to lose metabolic syndrome weight.

I need a meal replacer, preferable a powder that works like Slimfast with much less carbs.

The ideal? Powder that blends with milk, low carb, medium protein and medium fat.

Anyone?

If the point is to stop the prediabetic stuff (which IMO is bs - you’re diabetic or you’re not, the “prediabetic” crap is how they try to get you hooked on the meds), then the best thing is exercise.

But not wear-yourself-out exercise. What you want is prolonged exercise, something you could do for an hour every other day. Walking is the best thing to do but, during the hot summer, an even better method is to get into a pool and walk back and forth along the bottom of the pool while swinging your arms just under the water. It burns calories and the displaced waters reduces stress from the weight. That’s particularly good exercise for those who are woefully out of shape.

See post #59...you don’t need any $50 books.

BTW, in the 60s, it was called “the drinking man’s diet.”

Hubby and I both have had great results with this:

Pricey, but delicious and all kinds of nutritional goodness packed into one serving. We blend it with almond milk and frozen fruit. Yum ;)

use sea salt.....give up the bread and pasta...and walk..WALK..
Find a suitable track, do a mile in the morning and one in the afternoon. On rainy days go to the mall. Get yourself a small radio with earplugs to pass the time. I used to listen to Rush during my afternoon walks.
Chicken, tuna, other fish (broiled),fruits (apples are excellent)
Do it and you’ll lost the weight and your “numbers” will get much better within a month....

Gluten and dairyfree. Meat is fine. Dairy is for baby cows.

I am a big believer in fruit/veggie smoothie meal replacers to help drop the first pounds, too. Add lot of spinach.

I was curt in my last entry, but do take a nice open minded look at T-Tapp. It’s a wonderful exercise regimin. 15 mins a day to lose inches like crazy and work up to the 55 min for even more amazing results. In the end you get a Marine posture and skinnier ribs.

And, like many here have already said, cut the sugar and grains completely out for a while. That drops inches very quickly, too.

You can find Glucerna at Walmart and any drug store.

When my diabetic husband was in the hospital, they kept bottles of Glucerna next to his bed all the time. That drink didn’t raise his sugar level so he could drink them any time. That’s where I learned about them.

I would suggest Paleo/Atkins/South Beach in light of your prediabetes, but I see from your post that you’d like to begin with two shakes & a meal (similar to the Slim Fast plan). Atkins makes shakes, and, surprisingly, they taste pretty darn good!! Just keep them cold & you’d swear you’re having a real, thick, milkshake!!

You are probably aware of this but in case not, I’ll say it: stay away, FAR AWAY from soy. It is estrogenic & really screws with your endocrine system. Big time. If you really must partake, I’d suggest edamame only as it isn’t processed. Fermented & processed soy is horrible for your endocrine system. A simple Google search will turn up boatloads of credible info on this.

I’d also suggest getting a good water pitcher. I use a Clearly Filtered pitcher because it removes much of the pharmaceuticals & fluoride that contaminates our drinking water. People on “the Pill” and other prescription meds pee them out & the aren’t removed in our water treatment facilities, so one can only guess the wild hormonal roller coaster these remnant drugs can cause on the rest of us.

Look, it’s extremely important you DON’T become diabetic.
I am Diabetic Type II myself.

This Glucerna looks good = “Hunger Smart Shake”. I’ll get some of these for sure. Walmart might have a limited number of types, but if they don’t have this one, drug stores should.

Try less than $10.00. That Dr. Atkins Diet works.
I've used it several times, and a Flight Surgeon suggested it to me in the late 70s at Seymour Johnson AFB, the first time I used it.
It's very heavy on meats, and there no calories to count.
After 2 weeks you can have some greens, and dark greens are the best, but only in small amounts.
It works well, but it's expensive, due to the cost of meat.

With all do respect, I still think Glucerna has too many carbs - 27g in a shake to be exact, 6g of which are sugar & it contains fructose.

If you really want a low-carb, low-sugar shake, try Atkins shakes. Of course the hospital kept Glucerna at your husband’s bedside.....they probably have a contract with Abbott.

Once I saw a poster with diabetic meal plans on it. It was the “exchange” program....it told people with diabetes how much carbs they could eat at each meal. Amazingly, it allowed for a piece of white toast at breakfast & a small serving of pasta at lunch. In the bottom corner in teeny tiny print was a “brought to you by Eli Lilly” Lilly is the largest manufacturer of insulin, so of course they want their diabetics eating carbs! They want to keep them insulin dependent!!!
