WATCH: ‘I’m Important! I’m Somebody!’ Baptist Pastor Throws Epic ‘Hissy Fit,’ Berates Churchgoers

Fun times at the Immanuel Baptist Church of Skiatook, Oklahoma.

Recent video shows pastor Jim Standridge throwing what can only be described as an uncomfortably epic hissy-fit upon discovering one of his younger churchgoers had fallen asleep during his sermon.

“Don’t you go to sleep while I’m talking?” Standridge said from his pulpit, looking directly at the snoozing churchgoer. “Hey! Hey! Don’t you lay your head back!”

“I’m important. I’m somebody,” the pastor continued as he stepped down from the pulpit and walked directly over to the unidentified sleepy male. “You may do your English teacher that way, but I’m not here teaching English. I’m teaching eternal life.” Standridge walked over to the man, stood over him, and sternly told him: “You stay awake and you listen to me.”

Instead of returning to his pulpit to continue the sermon, however, Standridge then took the opportunity to berate other churchgoers who’ve run afoul of him lately.

“I am interested in FR comments on how thay would react if they had been present. “

Well I would not have been present since I am no longer baptist. Here is a classic example of a baptist jerk not too far from the ones that caused me to leave the one I left.

Oh and when I did leave, I left like the building was on fire.

He fell asleep in church! So big deal. I don’t know his story. Maybe he’s working two or three jobs to make ends meet and was just worn out. Did you ever think of that? I guess the holier than thou jerk off of a baptist preacher sure did not. I don’t know the man’s back story but all anyone needed to do was have an usher go wake him. Oh sheese I have had to wake men up at Holy Adoration! Only reason I did not fall asleep myself is I cheated and was able to sneak in some coffee. So yea I am not going to bash this man or any other man for falling asleep. Just wake him up and be done with it.

It’s pretty disrespectful to fall asleep in church. Jesus whipped people behaving badly in His Father’s house.

Anyway, he’s only human and preachers put up with terrible abuse these days. He does not deserve to be disrespected by sleeping people. No one has to go to church if they want to sleep instead. That is God’s house to worship.

Growing up, there was always a tad of fear in acting badly in church. Not just fear of my parents either. The Priests, Nuns, ushers...would give you “the look” if you acted like an ass - adult or child. I knew I was in God’s house, too. At that time Catholics kept a reverent, worship atmosphere in the church. We dressed up. It could have been because I was young, but I could feel the Holy Spirit in church and I did not want to do anything but pray and soak it in.

Last time I went...a zoo. I felt badly for the Priest.

I can’t say, because I am not Jesus.
Neither are you.
Perhaps Jesus would have flipped the snoozing gentleman up over the pew, ala the moneylenders in the Temple.
I will ask Him, if and when I am granted presence in His grace in the afterlife.

Maybe the pastor had seen enough disrespect for the church and felt the need to put an end to it.
Perhaps those, unlike you, who are imperfect souls needed a kick in the keester.
I will give the pastor the benefit of the doubt.

Well in all due respect that was the days of the Latin Mass. I know about this because my parish is lucky we now have one again and if I can help it that is the only Mass I attend. That new Mass is nothing more than a Protestant service, and I being a former Protestant would know. This is why Catholics have lost respect. If there were more Latin Masses you’d see a lot more Catholics return to what you remember!

I suppose you never nodded off in church? Never?

How perfect of you.

We mere mortals bow in awe of your unmarred spirituality.

Pharisee.

I’ll never understand why listening to someone attempting to teach the bible in a foreign, dead language is not a waste of time.

I’m sure it makes for some really showy ceremony, though.

So you have determined (based on nothing) that EVERYONE sleeps in church. You are a sloganeer kook. Probably a LIEbertarian.

It’s based on the thousands of people I’ve known, all over the country, who I’ve shared churches with.

God is just, and if you’re not lying about it now, you’ll fall asleep in church someday and then you can climb down off your high horse and dwell on Earth with the rest of us flawed human beings.

Until then, I hope that you don’t require any grace and forgiveness from the people who are unfortunate enough to know you.
