LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) Syfys campy hit Sharknado, which set social media on fire when it premiered July 11, hit select theaters nationwide Friday for a one-night only midnight screening.
The director of the film, along with cast members Ian Ziering, John Heard and Tara Reid, were expected to show up for one of the screenings at downtowns L.A. Live to celebrate the TV movie about sharks falling from the sky.
Sharknado is just ridiculous enough, I think, that its exploding and its getting theatrical releases when even the film director didnt expect it, said film critic Witney Seibold, who believes theres a reason why so many people are talking about the low-budget film, and its the same reason why The Rocky Horror Picture Show is such a phenomena.
A movie like this is really, really strange, but theyre clearly coming from an honest place. The filmmakers are trying to give you something that they think is really, truly entertaining, he said.
They call it a film. Was it shot on film? Is it being projected on film? NO. NO.
It’s a video. To be more accurate, it is a Radiomovie (Charles Jenkins’ 1925 term for broadcasting programing to theaters).
BenLurkin ~ That is a brilliant concept - a classic running sight gag!
Agreed!

Indeed, that's where the real horror movies should be made.
The real horror is that we are actually living this one.

You forgot to mention the kickboxing tank. Supershark and kickboxing tank duke it out on the beach (because the giant shark can walk on land). How could you forget to mention that?
Sharknado, Supershark-cinematic masterpieces I tell ya.
I watched these last weekend while working a grave yard shift, and thought they were hilarious ( also ridiculous.) I suppose this doesn't say much for my taste in movies.
“Max? Would you like to comment on who moonlights at Asylum?”
Porn crews in-between projects (most of them temp for Naughty America) on hiatus and ex-communicated WGA writers who don’t want to pay their union dues.
One of my right-wing friends in the biz wanted me, and another dude to make a band and call it Hitlery Clinton. Just metal songs and the singer would be some person wearing a nazi uni and the lead guitar would be called Nazi Bill. We haven’t tried it.
LOVE it!
Awesome cthulhu pic! Glad I don’t work there!
“They could of had it running over people”
Oh - that is a GREAT idea. My daughter was at someone’s house and saw some movie - called “Rubber” I think? About a rubber ball that rolls around and stalks some girl. The ball even stays the night in a motel room across from where the girl stayed!
Carwash Shark
After long enough unemployment, it doesn’t look so bad...
I haven’t seen that one, but have watched several Sci-Fi channel flicks. One was about sand sharks and featured none other than Brooke Hogan. They bring back some fond memories, as I used to enjoy the zipper-backed monsters of Toho Studios. “Destroy All Monsters” is a favorite of mine, it’s like a monster movie by Robert Altman.
