On Wednesday, Good Day New York spoke with people on the Upper East Side at 72nd St. and Third Ave. who described what they smelled:

“It’s weird. I’ve been here about 50 years off and on and it’s the first time I’ve smelled that. There are other smells but never that.”

"Like a slight honeysuckle scent," said another woman.

The smell appeared to be headed south from the Upper East Side all the way to the City Hall area.

Maybe they’ve found the goods from the great maple syrup robbery in Canada?

Smells other than human perspiration and feces are foreign to those libbie city-dwellers.

Tuesdays in Cedar Rapids, IA...Captain Crunch manufacturing day...the entire town smells like fresh doughnuts & crunchberries....the rest of the week, forget it. Penford Products churns out eye-watering turd pies in urine sauce, or something.

The City of 5 Smells to the locals; all other areas refer to it as StinkyTown.

Could it be Benzoic Acid’, C6H5COOH, which apparently produces a syrup-like odor?

“It’s a white crystalline powder and the industrial applications are as a corrosion inhibitor, as an additive to automotive engine antifreeze coolants and in other waterborne systems, as a nucleating agents for polyolefin, as a dye intermediate, as a stabilizer in photographic processing and as a catalyst. Wide range of benzoic esters are used as solvents, dying carrier, disinfectant additive, penetrating agent and pesticides and manufacturing other compounds.”

If it’s almond/amarretto, easy to confuse with maple, it’s cyanide. Take precaution.

See? They need further study. Maybe with some beaver species it’s maple.

Sticky, sweet smell? Probably only Sarin. Nothing to worry about, it’ll pass.

He looks like Otis Campbell, the town drunk from the Andy Griffith show. I can’t watch that show anymore without thinking what a jerk Andy turned out to be.

And in downtown, Milwaukee, on still days, Ambrosia Chocolate. But get out towards Brady Street, and it smelled like the tanneries, which was a pretty awful smell!
