The 8 Cheapest States for Retirees

With baby boomers getting ready to pack it in and head toward retirement, many people are wondering where they are going to want to spend their golden years. This is not only applicable to statisticians or government record keepers, but also to business owners, health care companies, nurses, and doctors.

While some are sure to head for the warmth of Southern weather, the coziness of the countryside, or the long sought-after home of their youth, many will be looking to their bank accounts rather than their hearts to determine a final place of residence. For those monetarily conscious retirees, here is a list of the eight best states to retire to, by the numbers, according to analysis from Kiplinger.

I’ll bite. With the exception of Delaware, they aren’t run by RATS!

I'm counting nine states, not eight. And Alaska? You've got to be kidding! A long way that state oil royalty check ($1000, I think) will go toward heating . . . that would be the equivalent of roughly $100 in Pennsylvania.

I dunno....Florida is pretty friendly for retirees.

No state income tax, generous homestead exemptions, no dictatorship by unions....therefore personal home services like plumbing, painting, lawn care, etc. are very reasonable (and you can bargain), no massive heating bills eight months of the year, lots of healthy, free outdoor recreation opportunities, lower property taxes than in many northern states like Illinois, New Yawk......a smaller wardrobe with more lightweight clothes, shoes, etc. will do ya all year round, lots of senior discounts at stores and restaurants, early-bird-special dinners.....I could go on, but it's too late to do all this thinking!

Nite!

Nonsense numbers.

Texas & Oklahoma are strong contenders for the best place to retire.

The best part is the good neighbor thing.

Also gas is a little cheaper here than in NY and the non-ethanol crap will be more readily available, though I heard Pasco Cty may raise their gasoline tax. WTH?

The article that this article was cribbed from (linked in the OP) adds Florida and South Carolina.
