Why the Republicans Keep Losing
N/A | N/A | Morris Poston

Posted on 09/30/2013 2:09:58 AM PDT by goodn'mad

When and if the Republicans fight on conservative principles, they win. Ah, but there is the rub. Newt Gingrich beat former House Speaker, Jim Wright, like a rented mule. He didn't let up. House Post Office scandal, using his position to sell blank books etc. Made a contract with America. Gingrich received a lot of grief from the naysayers but the end result was the Republicans took the House for the 1st time in 40 years. Kept the House until the Republicans sounded like Democrat lite, forgot about the pledge with America, and then lost the House. Bush the Elder beat Dukakis when he let Lee Atwater run his campaign. Atwater took the battle to Dukakis. Didn't let up. Wrapped the Willie Horton mess around his neck. Then Bush reneged on his pledge, "Read my lips, no new taxes." He lost. I'm afraid the Pubbies are a lost cause. They won't unite. They won't stick up for one another. They won't hold to conservative principles. They want to be liked by the DC crowd i.e. the MSM and the Demon crats. And....they keep losing. Get a grip----the DC crowd nor MSM will ever like you. When get gets to got, they'll vote for Democrats everytime. They will never vote for you. Obama was probably the most "beatable" candidate the Republicans will ever run against. He gave more ammunition than anyone we will likely see again. I've never seen anyone snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like they do. Okay...long rant. I've decided that I'll never again vote for the lesser of the two evils. I'll hold to conservative principles and vote for candidates who will fight for those principles. I'm through voting against someone like I've done the last two presidential elections. The Republicans aren't getting the message. When they lose, they get it. Sad but true. Grrrrrh!

Linky?

Your excerpt lacks paragraphs. Can't be bothered to read it.

If you had a link, I might read that. But you don't.

The problem is not just getting Conservatives (like you) to unite under a Conservative candidate. The main problem is how to attract a young, dynamic and increasingly Liberal society to a GOP candidate. We have to offer a realistic agenda that folks will choose.

I know exactly how you feel. I dumped the GOP long ago. Conservatives aren’t appreciated there. I used to get upset at the GOP, for never listening to their conservative base. I no longer bother to stress over what that party does, and for one reason, it is far too late for a ballot box solution.

I hear what you are saying but I wish that for once we could get a standard bearer who is unapologetically conservative, who will clearly enunciate those ideas, and will show some spunk. Someone who would fire the handlers and speak from the gut. Who won’t get mealy mouthed and wishy-washy the first time he/she catches flack from the MSM. As far as winning the young and dynamic, that is an uphill struggle that I’m afraid we won’t win until we infiltrate the educational system and academia and the MSM, the way the liberals have done for the last few decades. We have to fight them on every front and it can only be a no holds barred struggle. Fight the liberals the way they fight the conservatives and you might be surprised.

Bingo. I think you’ve summed up in a few pithy words what I’ve tried to express in a long paragraph. I may sound negative but I don’t mean to. I’m a believer and ultimately, I’m sure we will win. And it may not be through political means. I believe in a “Higher Power” that holds this world together and none of this is a mystery to Him. Could go on but I think that sums it up. For what it is worth.

I understand your point but attempting to “infiltrate” the schools and other institutions will take 40 years of work. No, we must begin thinking out of the box, in a creative way and long before 2016.

Reagan was the last of his type, it will be increasingly difficult to find a stick to his/her guns Conservative. The ones running today are cut from a different cloth.

Sarah Palin is such a type but she has already been painted a nutcase by the media and Hollywood.

We need a leader, a real leader and they are far and few between. Every week I hear the Conservative press pop up a new name. It's like, “this week's leading Conservative is....X”!!

No, we really have to go back to the drawing board on this one. As it stands right now, I see nobody, unfortunately. We are in disarray.

Waiting for superman, a conservative answer to “dear leader” Obama, is feel good self-abuse.

No one, not even a President Ted Cruz, backed up with a majority GOP congress can reverse what the Left has done to our republic . . . as long as the existing structure of congress remains the same.

Changing the actors will not reverse dozens of anti-constitutional scotus decisions, nor thousands of regulations that strangle our freedoms and economy.

IOW, reform cannot possibly emerge from the institutions that live so very well from the existing, corrupt system.

To save what remains of our republic means a change of mindset. Support conservatives for national office by all means, but put far more attention on your individual states; convince your state assemblyman and senator to realize they have the power to call an Article V amendment convention to restore federalism and save us from our rulers in Washington DC.

Agreed but we're all attacking Washington as if it was Mars. True, they are disconnected from reality in the nation BUT the more we sound off as a militia, ready to storm D.C. the more mainstream and Lefties turn away from Conservative causes.

Our alienation from and disdain for Washington will not help our cause. We need to see the Capitol as OUR capitol, OUR Washington, OUR Federal government, OUR elected (yet not agreed with) officials and it indeed is.

We need to stop disassociating ourselves from OUR government. True it has train-wrecked off the tracks but the Founding Fathers expected US to take the responsibility of putting it all right and guiding the Republic, not just bitch about it...

OK, I will take a look...I could be wrong but so far, the remedies offered have failed.

I got with my state assemblyman last week for about an hour.

He was aware of calls for an Article V convention. It made sense to him and he was interested in the background of the 17th Amendment.

Obamacare was the final insult. It is going to cost him an additional $300,000/yr to take care of his 150 employees.

I believe in God and in his son Jesus Christ. I know God is in control but I also believe this country would be a lot better off if we spent more time on our knees asking God to forgive us for our transgressions as a nation.

We, as a nation, are having our troubles, because we have become our own god. It was a gradual process and one that would be very difficult to change. Perhaps a return to God, on a national level, would begin to change things, but as weak as our Churches are, I don’t see that happening.

“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
-Joshua 24:15

You mean someone like Ted Cruz?

I think a President Cruz could inspire the states to call for a Constitutional Convention to begin the hard path back to a Constitutional Republic.

ITA but don’t get too excited, conservatives will find something wrong with him. We are our own worst enemy.

Actually no....whenever the Republicans have run a strong conservative national campaign, they’ve rolled to huge victories.

We NEVER win the middle by pretending to be one of them....we win them by bringing them to us, which can ONLY happen when we articulate a bold message.

Think 80, 84, 94, 2002, 2010.
OR, think disasters of the moderate campaigns of 92, 96, 06. 2008, 2012, etc.
There are other factors too, but my theme holds 100% of the time.

Don't successful GOP campaigns depend on previous RAT mishaps and mismanagement? Is here a connection. Is there another explanation for these massive voter swings?
You think it is ONLY a brilliant GOP message being offered?

I'll hold to conservative principles and vote for candidates who will fight for those principles.

If a lot of voters think like you thew will elect a lot of Conservatives to the House and perhaps 15% per cent of them will be still Conservatives on the first day of business. There is no money in it. Vote "correctly" and your financial future is assured, even if you are not re-elected in 2 or 6 years. Vote Conservatively and your financial future is your salary and what successful investments you can make with it.
