It could mean the end of the daily hunt for power cables. Korean researchers have unveiled an experimental wireless recharging system that could top up the mobile of everyone in the office wirelessly. The system can transmit power up to 5 metres, and charge up to 40 phones at a time - and is even powerful enough to power a TV.

At this stage in America, I worry more that the intention of this product is to provide another eavesdropping vector.

Ha, I was reading about him the other day how he spent his last days at the New Yorker hotel at 34th street and 8th in Manhattan, and he was totally broke and emaciated. Incredible story. The hotel and his room are still there.

This is one pic I found, that's him in the middle...

Don't have to wash that way.

I read an article about this a few years ago that mentioned that it sorta works off the concept of resonating frequency, but they must limit the range because once the power goes a certain distance, anything that picks it up interprets it as power. i.e. 120 volts broadcast over, say 30 feet will electrocute anyone in that vicinity. But if you are closer it passes through you, harmless.

Yeah, I'd be worried that a ring or a watch band component or eyeglasses, pen/mechanical pencil, etc. would have a metal feature just the right length to resonate and charge up with enough volts to bite you.

Why not make this on a much more localized scale, like inches or a fraction of an inch? I have an electric toothbrush that does this. I've long wished my phone had a similar simple cradle (ahem, maybe even standardized!) that I could set it in and charge it wirelessly. Yes I know there are cradles now, but they require actually plugging into a fixed connector. I think I saw an add-on for iPhones once that did this.

Funny. I’ve wondered the exact same thing (cradle).

I might be concerned about my wife with one shoulder and two knee replacements. She’s high enough energy as it is, doesn’t need any more charging.

BS!!!

Democrats are safe.

They may die from something else, but brain cancer is an impossibility for them.

I think this is just great! All my fruits and vegetables, even my eggs, will last, like, forever!

Of course it will take some getting used to, having my living room look like a farm market.
