You argue like an obstinate 5th grader. You seriously don’t ever look in the mirror? I think, therefore I am. There’s a reason some people never get to God. If you can’t acknowledge you, how can you acknowledge God?

With you too runner. Just have to keep hour head down a little on this site. My biggest problem is this: why would a supreme master of the universe, creator of all, infallable, etc...need to be worshiped? Why would he require it? Does he become petulant if he doesn’t receive this flattery? It just doesn’t make sense.

We choose, it’s what we all do. In not choosing, you have made a choice. I have chosen and have faith that I have chosen wisely. I call myself a Christian because I have chosen to follow Christ. Bob Dylan sang that you have to serve somebody, and I believe that to be the case. We will all be on our knees someday. You won’t be forced to, all will fall in the presence of God, because the battlements will be exposed and the truth will be unavoidable. Just what I believe. Christians have a palpable desire for freedom because they know that you cannot serve two masters. Nothing has changed in 2,000 years. Christ fought the evil empire, and those Christians today who understand are still struggling against the same forces.

Good question, poorly framed. Why would any creator tolerate an ungrateful creation? Why would you, or anyone, knowing that your very life was a gift, not offer thanks? It’s ridiculous to not give thanks. You thank a waiter when he fills your tea glass, but you won’t thank the God who gave you life? The secret to happiness is gratitude. The recipe was woven into your soul. Thinking that some wanton concoction of humanistic zeitgeist will trump God’s template is certainly courageous. Good luck with that.

I am washed in the Blood of the Lamb and gratefully acknowledge Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

I’m not sure what you are on about.

It's not obtuse to want to understand the metaphysical explanations behind the real world, not just your religious creed of "God made everything.

Francis Collins didn't sit around and say "God created the genome". He devoted his life to studying it and mapping it's mechanics.

“I suspect that you think that climate “science” uses the scientific method. Am I correct?”

I don’t believe “climate science” or global warming as accurate.

But that question does make me realize you aren’t serious, just when I was taking you seriously.

If consciousness is quantum mechanical, then that’s scientific and amenable to research.

I’ve come to realize you just aren’t very knowledgeable or bright.

I was looking forward to hearing your ideas on consciousness.

All you gave was defensiveness and odd ad hominum.

Evidently you think we have quantum physics all figured out.

Yes, but not a theistic creator. There's a difference.

It's one thing to say God created the laws of physics. It's another to say that he loves you, listens to your prayers, monitors your thoughts, and cares about the everyday goings on of homo sapiens.

It's a world of difference actually.

“Evidently you think we have quantum physics all figured out.”

That’s a non-sequitar.

But, no.

It is, though, a discipline of scientific research. It’s pretty much purely scientific.

So if consciousness is a function of quantum mechanics, it could be addressed scientifically.

Figured out is another issue.

And the interesting part of the “Ask God” crowd is they think the Christian God is the only one around. In current times, there’s a plethora of creator gods from one edge of the world to the other, all with an equal chance of being the “real” creator of the universe. That excludes the thousands of previous, and forgotten masters of the universe.

Surefire conversation killer. Tell a theist that if they were born in China 500 years ago they’d think all Christians were full of crap, and by their own criteria, odds are that their China self would be burning in Christian Hell as we speak.

Well, I told my mother that if she'd been born in an Islamic country and given that up-bringing, she'd undoubtedly be Muslim now. Do you know what she did? She thought a moment, and then smirked and said, "God made sure I was born Christian."

THAT is the mentality. Deep down, each religious person seems to be pretty certain that they have been placed in the right place to learn the right religion, because they are one of God's favorites. There's a mighty egotism in that, and it explains why they are so fervent.

I actually had a couple women on another thread commenting to each other that I was an atheist because God didn't want me to know Him, and had thus not "opened my heart" the way He'd opened theirs. This is borderline mental illness. (And I'm not so sure about the "borderline" part.)

Mental illness is the atheism that murdered more than 100 million last century. It is mentally ill to think that all religious people are crazy. The next step is probably extermination, right?

You probably consider it the opiate of the masses, like your hero.

Maybe you shouldn’t generalize and build straw men to knock over.

And then there’s the ones who think all school teachers are out to murder them.

It’s a different mindset, for sure. I’ve noticed there’s seems to be an undercurrent of paranoia amongst a number of evangelicals I know. They’re nice enough though. Just a bit much on the “holier-than-thou” front.

Knee jerk intolerance is one of the countless flaws found in all people to varying degrees. This is what the Bible teaches. So the comment was not inconsistent with true belief.

The point is that atheism cannot explain the existence of objective morality. All it can do is support the existence of subjective morality—for example murder would be no more immoral than picking daisies, it’s all only opinion.

It’s far more than just creating the laws of physics. If you understood anytyhing about quantum physics, you would understand that. And I mean, by definition.

In short, you need to fill in some blanks dude….your world view has some gaping holes. And you’re not clear on the accepted definition of theism either, not that that partciular detail really matters.
