Then perhaps Mr Will has a satisfactory answer to the question of why it is wrong to expedite humans back to their chemical building blocks if it gives one pleasure.

I don’t see why anyone would ever have any problem with anyone else’s personal religious persuasion

Beliefs have consequences. See Islam, Marxism, etc.

So if I asked you to explain the origin of the moons of Mars, you’d just say “God did it”? No more explanation needed?

You seem to be a little obtuse...

Since I believe God created the heavens and the earth, that would include the origin of the moon, mars, all of the universe to the smallest proton and quark...

Yes, thats called faith...not science...

What is consciousness, for starters?

Or do you believe that consciousness does not exist?

My best argument for a higher being is to get a non believer to listen to a complex Beethoven or Mozart symphony.

Listen close enough and you will understand that this could not be of human origin.

No wonder he got less and less actually conservative.

Me neither, but it also explains why their views tend to shift with the prevailing winds.

Exactly.

I asked you what is consciousness.

You need to define what you mean.

I provided an example of being conscious vs being unconscious.

My guess is that would not be what you mean by consciousness.

Have to agree there. Baroque or classical era music is filled with remarkable complexity, never mind emotion. Romantic era, maybe not as much, but more so the pieces that lean towards later classical.

Do you consider yourself to be conscious?

Can you give me a scientific definition of consciousness?

Can you use the scientific method to measure consciousness?

Or is consciousness beyond the realm of scientific investigation? I mean real science that uses the scientific method, not fake science that depends upon inductive/deductive reasoning and "consensus."

Is consciousness something about which we know very little other than the empirical observation that I perceive myself to be conscious?

That latter notion is endemic of some eliminativists, who are of the materialist school. One of them, Frank Jackson of Australian National University, believes that consciousness technically does not “exist” except as an “epiphenomenon” of brain functions.

I think consciousness is a quantum mechanical phenomenon.

We barely understand any quantum physics. We just use it.

That is if what we call “quantum physics” really is what we currently understand it to be.

if you don’t believe in God, how can you believe in true Righteousness?

I'm with Will. And I doubt you could explain to me what "true Righteousness even means.

There's no disrespect intended toward Christianity in that -- just that your knee-jerk intolerance causes me to doubt your belief.

I’m beginning to not take you seriously.

Do you consider yourself to be conscious?

A: Yes

Can you give me a scientific definition of consciousness?

A: perhaps.

Can you use the scientific method to measure consciousness?

A: Yes

Or is consciousness beyond the realm of scientific investigation? I mean real science that uses the scientific method, not fake science that depends upon inductive/deductive reasoning and “consensus.”

A: No. Consciousness is not supernatural, therefore amenable to scientific study.

Is consciousness something about which we know very little other than the empirical observation that I perceive myself to be conscious?

A: No. As I mentioned, there are drugs that cause loss of consciousness or alter consciousness. There are very researchable neurophysiological aspects to study.

Do you think consciousness s supernatural?

I think consciousness is quantum mechanical.

Pretty colors on an MRI do not explain consciousness. Drug reactions do not explain consciousness.

I suspect that you think that climate "science" uses the scientific method. Am I correct?

I don’t wonder, but if I did the first thing to establish is that there is a hidden hand. This part seems easy enough based on the facts at hand. Now we choose wisely. . Don’t we?
