Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Poor Sally. I feel for her. *HUG*

I started to make coffee, but got side-tracked about the tubs and didn’t even turn it on. How silly is that?

I DID find my frog ink stamps, so now all I have to do is find some green ink pads!

The stack of stuff for donation is growing exponentially, I think, and that’s a good thing. I will plan on going out there again tomorrow morning and going through more tubs. There are only five left. YAY!

But then there are the book crates...That will be fun. When I cool off a little, I will take some stuff to the Dumpster, since it will be empty in about five minutes...

I like the new tagline!

I just cut up two canteloupes. When the lovely Bill gets out of the shower, I’ll go to Walmart. I don’t feel up to taking all five little children.

I thought the tagline was really cool! LOL! So accurate!

Some of the messages that get translated from voice to text are really hilarious! THAT I know from experience.

My brain isn't working...

I didn't even go inside Walmart yesterday, so I don't know if they had cantaloupes on sale or not. I would love to have a half of a sun-warmed cantaloupe with a grinder of sea salt handy.

I can't do much about getting the Christmas tubs in the house until the china hutch is out of here and I have a chance to empty out the coat closet. Then I can replace the stuff in there that is in bags with tubs, and I think I can stack them three or four high.

With luck, at that point, I can begin to move the bookcases, and make things a little neater in here. I don't function well with disorder. Now is the time I wish I had Sally here. I bet she would be an awesome helper...

I got the canteloupes at Harris Teeter. I was going to go to Walmart last night while Sally and Pat were at church, but I got to talking about the Jamaica trip with the leader and then didn’t have time. Now I have to go get the things I’m too cheap to buy at HT.

I know what that’s like! LOL! I ran out of aloe vera juice because I don’t have a way to get to the only store I know of that carries it. And I forgot to order melatonin...sheesh...no wonder my sleep is messed up!

Busdaddy will be taking the china hutch on Thursday, and I will go along with my laundry in tow. *sigh* I was beginning to like independence... When I got tired of him, I could just leave....

Back from Walmart. It’s school supply time! They didn’t have a gazillion spiral notebooks at $.15 ea on the shelves yet. I’ll have to get them next time. If Frank scribbles on every page, it was worth the 15 cents to keep him occupied for an hour.

Next I’m off on a mission to Mint Hill, near where our church is. I boiled some chicken I found in the freezer. It will be chicken salad for tomorrow.

Chicken salad sounds yummy. Can I have some? Please?

How is Sally doing?

Opening all these tubs is almost like Christmas! The fun part is giving away what I know I don’t need! I will call the thrift store tomorrow, after I have opened the last few tubs, and arrange for a pick-up. It will be just one of a few more that need to be done here if I am to live peacefully in my surroundings. I loathe clutter.

Once I get started on the books, it will be an entirely new ballgame.

HHhmmm... Just came back from the forest. Was checking on a cooling system that runs near the surface in the "way back".

Not sure if I should be concerned yet.

What did you awaken back there? And where are the Dwarves?
Find the basilisk and turn him loose...

Maybe.
Depends on if it is an infestation, an invasion, or simply pranking.

Secondary thought, those might have once been the dwarves.

Ohdoggies! How scary is THAT thought? Get Security to do a thorough sweep of the Lower Level, and see if the Zombies can get this under control before it spreads to the moat. The last thing we need is water impervious "THINGS" loose in the Environs.

Sally is recovering. She went to Walmart with me and we got a few more things for her trip to Jamaica, soap and stuff. I’ll start working on the chicken in a few minutes. I need to sit down after being out in the heat.

I am going AWAY this weekend, from Friday afternoon to Sunday when I show up for the Spanish Mass. A couple from the church have a place they’ve arranged for meetings and overnight stays. We had a meeting of the retreat team there a few months ago, and it’s got all the comforts of home except a cat. (They’re allergic to cats.)

They will be away for the weekend visiting relatives, so I’ll have the whole place to myself. I’ll plan meals and take my food over to cook. I’ll take my art supplies, some books, and maybe my needlepoint, and then I’ll sit around, all by myself. It’s only about 15 minutes from home, so I’m not wasting any of my free time on travel ... not that it would be wasted driving the RX-7, come to think of it ;-).

I won’t have internet for about 48 hours, so don’t worry about me. And check your FReepmail!

Checked the FReepmail, awesome lady, and can’t help but feel jealous that you have a place to go to get away by yourself. I REALLY wish I had a place to go to...

Maybe, when my truck gets fixed, I will contact my brother-in-law in Mesquite, and ask him for a room for three nights, with pool privileges. I need to feel pampered and to recharge my ailing batteries.

Just not enough time to myself.

I will envy you this weekend, and at the same time, wish you a peaceful regeneration. *HUG*
