The pirouetting Palace guardsman: Soldier captured on video showing off his dance moves to delighted tourists (but top brass aren't so impressed)

Guarding the Queen’s home is a serious and solemn duty.

So it’s a good thing Her Majesty was not around to see this soldier apparently pirouetting on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

In his red tunic and bearskin, the Grenadier Guard was filmed seemingly trying to ease the boredom of his two-hour shift with a series of remarkably elegant dance moves.

His antics delighted tourists but the Army and Ministry of Defence were not amused. He could now face disciplinary action.

I have never understood how they can find guys that will do this kind of monotonous guard duty.

Guard duty is boring, but to have to do things like the French do where they stand at ease in front of the top officer’s tent, or the headquarters door, and snap to attention and slap their thighs every time someone walks by would be unbearable.

This would have been nice as a Saturday Night Live skit...but, instead, it explains why the British Empire has faded. I hope this will be allowed under sharia law...I guess we’ll see.

There's a video on youtube of a Buckingham Palace guard who walks over to a couple of kids who got too close, gets right in their faces and yells “get off the fence”.I nearly soiled myself but the kids started laughing.

The Guards regiments do a lot more than public duties. They are crack units trained to a very high standard, and have the battle honors to prove it.

Because it is an honor and it’s only for 2 hours a shift.

Everything he did was a legit marching step but Liz is displeased.

I believe that it is an honor and that the guys are proud to do those kind of things, but I sure wouldn’t want to, it would bore me to tears, I don’t have a performer’s personality.

This guy seems to agree — and has opted for reassignment to peeling potatoes.

That is what it seemed like to me, he was fed up and wanted out of the routine.
