Report: Cruise ship carrying Texas Ebola health worker refused entry in Belize
Washington Post ^ | 17 Oct 14 | Fred Barbash

The Belize coast guard is refusing to allow passengers from a cruise ship to come ashore because it’s carrying a Texas hospital worker who handled a lab specimen from the man who died of Ebola in Dallas, according to news reports from Belize. A White House official confirmed to the Associated Press early Friday morning that that the unnamed Dallas health care worker is on the ship and is “self-quarantined.” But the White House did not identify the country.

He “self quarantined” himself on a ship?

Good thing that disease has never been spread on a cruise ship.

The WH didn’t identify the country?

What does that even mean?

There is so much nonsense coming out on the ebola virus that it’s hard to keep up with it. It’d be funny if it were not so dangerous.

I’m having difficulty with the mindset. They worked in an unprecedented situation with a lot of unknowns in which many nurses and other healthcare workers have been exposed and infected in other countries. But then, “oh, I’m going to fly to Cleveland to pick out bridesmaid dresses!” Or, “I think I’ll take a cruise to Belize.”

Well ain’t that just dandy. Why not “I’m going to Disneyworld!” Like it or not, this is causing us to enter into an era of personal responsibility. The disease does what it does, it’s no respecter of persons or plans.

Wake up. Deal with it. Curtail your travel plans or even being around large crowds of people until you know you’re OK, if you’ve potentially been exposed.

People are idiots.

1. The hospital worker who announces to his fellow cruise ship passengers that he handled a vile of blood of an Ebola patient is an idiot.

2. The people in Belize who made the decision not to let anyone on that ship into their country are absolute idiots.

3. I feel like an idiot for reading the story only to find out the hospital worker has no symptoms and people are panicking.

I suppose they didn’t want to admit that Belize can tell the USA no admittance, but the USA cannot not tell Liberia and the other countries fighting ebola “no travel to our country until the epidemic is contained.” Belize is apparently concerned with its public’s health and safety.

You must be reading a different source than linked, because I read that it is a husband and wife with the wife exhibiting symptoms. They’re stuck on the ship’s tender between the cruise liner and land because neither will allow them entry. There’s an air ambulance awaiting at the airport in Belize but they can’t get to it.

That’s what the linked report says. What have you read differently?

The hospital worker has no symptoms of Ebola and was not in a direct care situation with any Ebola patient.

We cannot lock up every person who worked in that Dallas hospital while Duncan was there.

How to get Ebola-exposed people quarantined: send them to another country where they have some sense.

Better to err on the side of caution than to pooh pooh the whole thing and act an utter fool...which is what our government has done.

The authorities in Belize may be alarmist but their actions are understandable and far better than the actions of the US government IMO.

Let’s see.

Sister talks to Duncan, convinces him to get a visa and he comes over by passenger aircraft, after handling a near death ebola victim.

DHS receives 160,000 immigrants in May, which they planned on their arrival for at least 6 months prior, then dispersed them to all corners of the country by government mechanisms.

Now a healthcare worker travels to Cleveland by plane, and another travels to Belize by Cruise Ship.

Reads more like prototype asymmetric warfare metrics. Somebody is probing the systems from within to grease the skids to attack the US from within, and measuring the requisite forces to accomplish their mission.

The linked report says that the wife of a traveling husband and wife couple is exhibiting symptoms and they’re being refused landing in Belize and not being allowed to return to the cruise liner.

You say she’s not exhibiting symptoms. It’s not that I don’t understand what you’re saying, and I’d agree if what you’re saying is supported by other more reliable information. But, that’s not the case as far as I can see.

Got a link?

“Updated: The State Department confirmed this morning that a health worker who “may have” handled lab specimens from the man who died of Ebola in Texas is on board a cruise ship apparently in the Caribbean. The employee, who has demonstrated no symptoms of Ebola, is “self-monitoring,” according to a State Department spokeswoman.”

He may have handled a lab specimen or he may not have handled a lab specimen.

He has no symptoms.

They’re saying it’s the wife unless I’ve misread, not the husband. And, how detached from reality does one have to be, to go on a cruise and brag about handling vials of Ebola? Say it’s ignorant and panic all you want and you may be right, but it’s small comfort to them now trapped on a small launch between the cruise liner and land.

A Big Clue here.
The same behaviour is exhibited by people during the early stages of a Cold or Flu. (Personal observation).
“I don’t feel right, but have the need to get close to others for some reason”
So look out for viral ‘suicide bombers’.
