I’m having difficulty with the mindset. They worked in an unprecedented situation with a lot of unknowns in which many nurses and other healthcare workers have been exposed and infected in other countries. But then, “oh, I’m going to fly to Cleveland to pick out bridesmaid dresses!” Or, “I think I’ll take a cruise to Belize.”
Well ain’t that just dandy. Why not “I’m going to Disneyworld!” Like it or not, this is causing us to enter into an era of personal responsibility. The disease does what it does, it’s no respecter of persons or plans.
Wake up. Deal with it. Curtail your travel plans or even being around large crowds of people until you know you’re OK, if you’ve potentially been exposed.
The hospital worker has no symptoms of Ebola and was not in a direct care situation with any Ebola patient.
We cannot lock up every person who worked in that Dallas hospital while Duncan was there.
Go find one-hundred people on the street and see how willing they are to be quarantined for three weeks. Marginal paid people? They won’t stay home because they can’t afford it. Party-people? Can’t stay home for more than five days max. Druggies? Can’t stay home that long without someone delivering their daily or weekly drugs. Teenagers? Zero chance because they won’t accept an entire weekend in the house.
A logical person working for the health industry needs to have this mindset....if they handled a Ebola patient....they can come to work and be monitored two or three times a day. But they ought to be forced into absolutely no trips, and no trips to public forums or shopping centers.
Part of the problem, besides idiots in Dallas healthcare, is the CDC did NOT consider HCW high-risk. This even though hundreds of HCW died in Africa, fter presumably taking at least some precautions...
Wow all these people hopping on planes, boarding ships...I had no idea how complacent I’ve been just driving a few hours to a campground or something once a year.
...A few years ago I wanted to see a play and sightsee in London but had nobody to go with so I was gonna do it solo, then my husband and mom freaked out...*sigh*
Or, I think Ill take a cruise to Belize.

My guess is that the cruise wasn’t a spur of the moment decision. There are cruise clubs where, if you’re willing to leave on a moment’s notice, you can snare an unsold cabin at rock bottom prices. But for most passengers a cruise is planned and booked months or even a year beforehand and the cost is paid for in advance.
I don’t know what a cruise line would do in this situation, but cruise lines are reluctant to refund the money paid. Cruise insurance might net you some money, but a good chunk of the money paid will not be recovered.
I’m with you. Some of these healthcare workers seem way too casual for my liking.
