People aren’t forced to vote for Sarvis. The Cuccinelli-McAwful exit polls showed that the Sarvis vote would have been split about equally between Dems and Reps had he not been in the race.

No, it is Mark who ran for AG and narrowly lost.

A “have your votes in by 6AM or they don’t count” law should do nicely.

Gillespie will always be known for the old card, “It might have been.”

Next time, all precincts should wait for Fairfax to report first. Same with Cook county in IL

And, Broward County in Florida. On election night, when the rest of the counties were counted at 100%, Broward was still at 17%. (Around 11:00) Broward voted something like 4-1 against Scott. That's why it took so long to declare Scott the winner for Governor.

The matter of returning Alexandria/Arlington to Virginia was complicated, finance, national politics, state politics, and slavery all figured in the mix. Wikipedia has a decent article on the matter.

"Now that Virginia has photo ID, cheating is more difficult for the Dems which is why this race is so close."

You're forgetting, what now may be the Democrats' greatest source of illegal votes: non-citizens, including legal immigrants.

Are non-citizens registering to vote? See "License, ID card policies stir concerns over illegal immigrants voting", excerpted below (noting red text for VA):

As more states begin providing illegal immigrants and their children with driver's licenses and ID cards, officials are concerned some also are registering to vote -- some by mistake, and others on purpose...

...While only U.S. citizens {and not even legal immigrants} can vote, only four states require proof before registering: Kansas, Arizona, Georgia and Alabama.

States can also compare voter rolls to a federal immigration database known as SAVE, or the Systemic Alien Verification System for Entitlements.

Four states tried, but the ACLU and others sued, stopping Virginia, Iowa and Florida from purging voter rolls of non-citizens.

The problem came to light recently in North Carolina, which compared its voter rolls against a federal immigration database. The cross-check of 10,000 voters found 1,425 likely non-citizen voters, including 109 illegal immigrants or so-called "Dreamers." Almost 10 percent registered to vote when getting their driver's license. But election officials say the problem is nationwide.

With over 2 million votes cast, Gillespie is less than 8.4 thousand votes (half of the margin plus one) short of beating Democrat Warner. That less than half a percent of the total vote. (See "politico.com)

Are non-citizens voting in US elections? See "Could non-citizens decide the November election?" - Washington Post, excerpted below:

"How many non-citizens participate in U.S. elections? More than 14 percent of non-citizens in both the 2008 and 2010 samples indicated that they were registered to vote. Furthermore, some of these non-citizens voted. Our best guess, based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample with a verified vote, is that 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in 2008 and 2.2 percent of non-citizens voted in 2010."

Who is ignorant/dishonest enough to claim that a Democrat win in Virginia, by such a small margin, would not have very likely been decided by non-citizen voters - with the help of the ACLU.

There's a reason why Open Borders is the Left's grand strategy for permanent one party rule.

Libertarian voters here draw as much or more from Democrats as they do Republicans.

An absolute MSM falsehood! The big Third Party lie started in the Perot days, when that evil dwarf siphoned 9% from the Republicans to give us Bill Clinton. Yeah, some Libretards would have been Democrats. But why then do you think the Democrats support these candidates so lavishly, if somewhat clandestinely, through various PACS.

I hold no brief for the pernicious effect of the Two Party System. However, since there is no effective Left wing counterbalance to the Libertarians and other Third Party candidates who CLAIM to be on the Right, it is the height of foolishness to vote for them and thus assure the Democrats electoral victories.

It is called life. One must be mature enough to deal with ambiguity in politics and yes, that all too often means selecting the lesser of two evils. The spoilers serve the greater of the evils available in an election.

E.G., I loathe Mitt The Mormon Milquetoast, but I certainly cast my vote for him. Would he, though the namby-pamby squishy RINO he most certainly is, have done The Republic less harm than The Mombasa MF has done? Choice: Mitt or Barry. Pick one.

They already threw in the towel seven months ago when they chose not to challenge the registration of 40,000 voters who are dually registered to vote in Maryland. Take away those 40,000 votes, and Gillespie wins easily.

The only way to save Fairfax County is to blow up the bridges across the Potomac. All of them.

The thing that just pi$$es me off is that we are going to have to fight with bullets because the GOP wouldn’t fight for ballots.

Which is why results should not be posted until all votes are in.. That way there’s no way to know how many votes need to be manufactured to win.

Just imagine if the GOP would actually get behind it’s Virginia candidates and invest some money in defeating Democrat opponents.

Wouldn't it be nice

I am convinced that the Virginia GOP actually wants the Dems in power. I am still fuming at how they worked feverishly raising money in the Commonwealth for the Cuccinelli election, only to send that money to New Jersey instead.

It was still encouraging though to see the rest of the state turn even more republican. Augusta and Rockingham counties went over 70% GOP, and SW VA was a sea of red as well. All it would take is to purge the voter rolls in Loudon, Fairfax, Alexandria, and Prince William counties of all voters dually registered in Maryland.

Don't you mean those six counties since it is a proven fact that people living in the People's Republic of Maryland are driving across the river on election day to vote in Virginia elections.

I don't blame the citizens who voted their principles, but I do blame the greedy, self-serving Libertarian Party, whose sole reason for being is to enrich themselves. Who do you think funds the Libertarian Party? In most cases, it's the Democratic Party, who sees the Libertarian Party as a perfect vehicle for stealing close elections from Republicans. So if you're a Libertarian and you don't mind being a TOOL of the Democratic Party, by all means, keep doing what you're doing.

I'm not a member of the Libertarian Party, or of the demonicrat party. I cannot influence their actions.

I'm not a formal card-carrying member of the Republican Party, either; I am registered to vote as a Republican. As such, I can (theoretically) influence the actions of the Republican Party. We "Republicans" can have our best effect by picking intelligent, solidly constitutional conservative, articulate candidates who can take our message to the voters. We must then support these candidates, all the way up from grunts like you and me to the national leadership. This will encourage conservatives who are completely disgusted by the current state of affairs to come out and vote. This will 'siphon off' some of the Libertarian votes.

We can't make the Libertarians go away; we can't make the demonicrats go away. We can and must make them irrelevant.

Complaining about the Libertarians does no good.
