“He can barely walk, barely stand, and is hunched over badly.”

Yeah, I guess that hard life lead to a pretty feeble 78.

The blonde from Ohio was awarded money, as I recall news reports said Burt would not honor the order to pay her. I'm sure I read a few months ago that he still owed her child support for their son, it was a large amount he owed.
I don't feel one bit sorry for him.
According to news reports he literally ran his wife and son out of Florida because he was having an affair with the love of his life. This was on the news for along time. Wonder where that love affair went.
I believe my Mother was right when she said “What goes around, comes around”.

Yep. I recall a film he made named Hooper wherein he played an aging stunt man addicted to pain killers, due to back problems incurred while making films. It sounds awfully like the real story.

How does a government that pulls in a few trillion (per year) manage to go bankrupt?

Some such as William Shatner are able to rejuvenate and even reinvent themselves.

Shatner is apparently smart about money, reportedly doing the early priceline commercials for stock in the company in lieu of cash, and wound up with many millions from that. Some apparently question how much he really made on that deal, however, if you look at priceline now, it's market cap is over $60 billion with a B, leaving room for many to make a lot of money on it over the years. It's up well over 400% in the past 5 years, however it's 95% owned by institutional investors.

Shatner put his money where his mouth is. Being compensated in stock for his role as company spokesman, at a time when Priceline was not nearly so well known and much smaller, could have resulted in very little reward for him. That Shatner instead reaped something of a windfall due to the success of Priceline afterwards speaks very well of their decision to bring him on as spokesman. He no doubt played a role in that success. He took a personal risk and it paid off, not just for himself but for the company. They all won.

James Taylor is better on stage now, vocally and artistically, than he was at his zenith.

Taylor is the guy for whom the term "flaccid rock" was coined. Always sucked, always will.

Burt used to own an entire Florida town which he used as a movie location... it was abandoned for unpaid taxes and given to a school district.. I last saw him on an episode of “Fast and Loud” where he pocketed a few thousand for an appearance..

I hear that he could make some of his money back by bootlegging beer from Texarkana to Atlanta. He could also be a rodeo clown.

“I got this thing about facial hair (swoon) and hairy chests and arms. (swoon again) “

I think that is what Dinah Shore said to Burt from the back seat of a Chevrolet.

I haven't been one of JT's biggest fans either but then, I like music that's good, no matter how you categorize it.

Four or five years ago, JT and Carole King did a reunion concert at The Troubadour in W. Hollywood that is available on DVD. Although JT is six years younger that CK, their voices both sounded almost identical to how they sounded 40 years earlier, and their stage presence was keener, IMO.

And that was the point of my initial post regarding aging performers embarrassing themselves to make a little more money. These two did not need the dough. Although you didn't buy his albums apparently (don't know how you feel about CK's Writer and Tapestry), many people did at the time.

Neil Diamond is ancient and still puts on a great show.

Neil Diamond is ancient and still puts on a great show.

I've seen parts of his recent-years' concerts on YouTube and he does an excellent job covering for the places in his songs that he can no longer sing--talks through them. He has always relied heavily on orchestration, especially in the shrill passages.

Still listen to Hot August Night every year or three but I've never really liked him as a performer and don't know why, since I have enjoyed some of his songs so very much over the years.

And stop this "ancient" business immediately. These are my peers.

Yes, but the ride!
