You went to Wilmington, DE and didn’t find much to do?

Ho boy. Shoulduh gave me a ping.

Lived there, about a mile from Joe Biden and his house was my mile marker for my morning run.

I could create a list of must sees and why in and around Wilmington that would have kept you busy for a week.

Just start at the Alamo, walk through the River Walk, exit the other side and that’s two or three days worth of stuff to do and great restaurants.

Then there’s all the other great things to do there.

".....with at least a 38 foot boat. "

With that starting point there are thousands of options. Hell sometimes you don't have to leave the slip!

I used to travel to San Antonio 2-3 times a year on business and I always liked it. Good food! I’d probably weigh 500 pounds if I lived there.

Las Canarias, Mi Tierra, Liberty Grill, Schiloh's...

Are you hungry yet?

“We stayed at the Luxor because they had $50 rooms...The rest of us are livestock.”

No offense but this is ridiculous. You get what you pay for, not just in Vegas. 50 bucks won’t get you a decent motel in a podunk town.

I worked with one engineer from France who told me it actually gets better when you get away from Paris. People, and not just the old timers, still appreciate the United States for liberating France in World War II. Unlike Parisians, they appreciate if you try to communicate in their own language, but prepare to be corrected. Not to be mean, just meant as correction.

As a 20 yr old and with 8 other friends Jamaica was one of the funnest trips i ever had.
I always told myself that if i ever went back i’d take one of those mini Louisville slugger bats to fight of the beggars though.

The Marriott is a nice place. Unfortunately, if you're adamant about a smoke-free hotel, you are limited in choices. The city has tried and failed with smoking bans and while many hotels have smoke free sections in the casinos, there are maybe a half dozen hotels that are 100% smoke free.

One advantage to Vegas if you have a car is that you aren't far from a number of attractions such as the Hoover Dam. You can even take a short trip to the Grand Canyon from there.

One cool thing to do in Vegas is the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. At night there is this cool light show. A word of caution though: Downtown Las Vegas has had its share if crime. If you drive downtown, park as closely as possible to the light show and don't walk anywhere alone.

I’ve been reading about the mountainous Altai region in southern Siberia abutting China, Mongolia and Kazakstan. Looks absolutely fabulous. Search for Altai on Pinterest for many terrific photos. The Denisovan cave is in the area, where bones more ancient than Neanderthals’ have been discovered.

I’ve been to 22 countries, and don’t need to see much of anything more…but the Altai beckons.

I'm partial to Traverse City on up. Cherries, wine, and coastline!

Biggest disappointment for me was Buenos Aires. A once great city with decay and food reminiscent of 1970s America with better steak.

On the other hand, I did my honeymoon in Turkey, and it exceeded my expectations. Istanbul was cleaner and friendlier than Paris or Rome.

I don't get the appeal of Disneyworld, nor understand people who take every vacation there.

Yes, Iceland, too, on the worthwhile list. Parts of the South Island of New Zealand a very close substitute for it. I was a $50/day traveler back then — would have to be less now so isn’t going to happen again.

Bingo!

Winterthur, Long Wood Gardens, Nemours and the original estate on the Brandywine.

So much history relevant to any right thinking American.

Where did gunpowder come from and who made it, helping is win how manh wars?

The single largest collection of American furniture, china, flatwear and objects in the world, with a garden so beautiful and natural looking, you’d never know it’s sculpted and not natural.

Longwood. I could live there and in that crappy cottage just fine.

Nemours? Opulent.

Kalmyrr Nyckel

Churches

DE museum.

Chadds Ford.

DE is deep and wide with historical places

Also love Old New Castle. Had my first cup of Wassail there and made the connection as to what that silly song was about, when I was growing up.

It’s a drinking song.

But the history of New Castle is incredible.

There’s also Pea island, though it’s not all that close to Wilmington.

Favorite restaurants was the Golden Dove diner and Harry’s Savoy.

You don’t go there expecting a nature preserve.

All those paintings where the shutters look like they're going to flow down the side of the buildings. There are some neighborhoods where that's more realism than impressionism. Stayed in Montmartre in the middle 90's. Very cool place. I saw a damn beautiful city. I live in a city. I'm used to ignorant Aholes. Am one myself when I need to be.

Some pain and disappointment could be avoided if people asked themselves seriously beforehand whether they really liked looking at rocks ...
