I almost bought that model car in 1978. It was $5,000 brand new and fully loaded. I decided it was too expensive. LOL!

Those Carter-era Trans-Ams didn't have the power to pull a fat housecat off a dead bird. True. I remember all the Hot Rod articles about the movie cars of the period. Most of them had different engines fitted, catalysts removed, ring and pinion gears swapped - lots of work just to get decent tire-frying smoky burnouts.
The Turbo Trans-Am was a particular challenge in second "Smokey" film - I think it might've had a nitrous system in it. That one was owned by Jerry Reed for a while - it's in the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum.

Cute LOL :-)
I’m an FSU alum and I can tell you Burt Reynolds was really generous when he hit it big. One year he bought the whole Seminole team fancy jackets and a bunch of other sports gear and had it delivered. He got publicity for it but he did not seek it. If Burt had not gotten injured in college he would have been and NFL star instead of a movie star.

Have you ever seen the "Bandit Edition" Trans-Am restomods built by Year One / Ghostworks Garage? Restored cars from the ground up, with massive improvements in suspension, engine, transmission and interior comfort. For only $130K (!!)
I'd like to think that Burt is getting a little piece of that action.

Yea well, I’m past the half century mark, and engaging in amorous gymnastics in a car with bucket seats that don’t recline, a stearing column that doesn’t tilt, center console and Hurst shifter, and no back seat to speak of; does require an asterisk at this point in time.
And Burt did have T-Tops on his car, so Sally at least had some... Ahem, headroom. ;-/

Those Carter-era Trans-Ams didn't have the power to pull a fat housecat off a dead bird. Most cars from those years were all show and not much go. Other than the advent of electronic ignitions which made tune ups a little easier, they weren't as reliable as many cars from the 60's. To this day, many 70's era cars, even in mint condition are little more than used cars. Ironically one of the few that had any b*lls was the Cosworth Vega, unlike the regular production Vegas that were the ultimate sh*tboxes, these cars were modified by Lotus with a then innovative 16-valve dual overhead cam cylinder head, an early form of electronic fuel injection that was actually fairly reliable and other mods.

Gee thanks, I think. Had a similar reaction from a walgreen’s cashier the other day when I whipped out the iPhone and used Apple Pay for my purchase. She commented that it seemed that the “old” customers were more prone to use the new tech than the younguns.
