Teenage My Little Pony fan APOLOGIZES to internet trolls; threw himself under train (Truncated)
The Daily Mail ^ | 12/17/2014 | Jay Narain

A teenager who was bullied by online trolls posted a heartbreaking video on YouTube before killing himself, an inquest heard.

Adam Smith, 19, who had learning difficulties, was bombarded with spiteful remarks and accused of plagiarism over a short story he put on a website.

In response to the vicious bullying, he posted a video on YouTube entitled ‘I’m sorry’ where he apologised for any misunderstanding.

But he was lambasted again by cruel users, who mocked him saying his speech problems were so bad it made them laugh.

Days later he was seen crying as he walked to a railway line near his home, where he was hit by a two-carriage train.

I dunno why some people have to be in ‘Harder than thou’ mode 24/7. Not sure who it impresses. Or to what benefit.

I’ve sat right seat with Ivan Stewart in SCORE desert trucks at triple digit speeds, hung out of helicopters shooting races, done all sorts of stuff that checks the man card boxes.

SO????

Watching a kids cartoon doesn’t make all that disappear. Honestly, I have a ton more respect for the craziest basement dwelling lib MLP fanboi than I do for the wannabee hardasses. At least the MLP types arent pretending to be something other than what they plainly show the world.

Both - we don’t deal with the mentally unwell that well and
we no longer allow bullies to be corrected in a manner they will understand and cause them to rectify their behavior.

Anyone impacted by internet trolls to the point of suicide must have some mental illness problem(s).

Anyone who would mock and bully another person to the point of suicide has even bigger mental illness problems, as does anyone who excuses or makes light of the bully's behavior.

Being cruel isn't a strength. It's the action of a mean, debased punk who never matured. Strong people don't have to pick on the weak in a vain attempt to show how strong they are.

I agree, I didn’t suggest anything inconsistent with that.

Now for a non fanboi reason why non preteen girls ALSO find the show interesting? There’s this cool word a lot of us older types used to know that used to be a part of our lives. “Innocence”. MLP is perhaps one of the last toons in production that has that. Perhaps one of the last shows period....... Now if you’ll all excuse me, I haven't watched “The Little Mermaid”, my favorite animated flick ever, in a long while now, so I think I’ll spend the rest of the day with my excessively credentialed Man card enjoying it.

You could't be more correct about the "Innocence" point Norm.

It’s got absolutely nothing to do with any of those things.

If somebody pierces themselves into being a pincushion and people stare, they really have no justification for whining.

And there’s the insane spectacle of “gay pride parades”.

There are those who intentionally set about making themselves look like sideshow freaks.

They should suffer the titters, calmly.

There are also those who are deformed, crippled, physically “unattractive”, tattered, ragged and poor through no fault of their own.

They should not be mocked.

Ever.

For some time, my tagline was “People will stare. Make it worth their while.”.

That is to voluntarily embrace ridicule.

There is a difference.

A t shirt is beyond the pale.

Then again, we live in a world where homos have co-opted Sponge Bob and projected their aberrations upon him.

I think I’ll shut up before I start spouting Yeats.

For me, I absolutely love the production of the show. The animation is seamless and top notch. The VAs are highly talented. Writing is superb.

Hell, Kazumi Evan’s voice is nothing short of amazing. I think she is this generation’s Julie Andrews. She has the enunciation, power, pitch, and versatility. I really hope she moves on to much bigger things.

“I guess my wonderful family, and a couple good neighbor friends, helped me through. “

That is the critical piece that kids need growing up. A young man who watches a childlike show about a pony; would lovingly be corrected and directed away from it; and directed to become a man instead.

I’m a huge Anime fan and one of the reasons is that America has produced so little worth watching in a couple decades now. Most of it is agenda driven and ego driven. Animation included. Stories are entertaining, plots are rehashes, and Agenda Agenda Agenda. I watched the first season of MLP and was immediately reminded of how entertainment used to be in America. The talent producing that show is fantastic.

Last week the topic came up. I recommend people with any interest in a good show/series RUN out and get Ghost in the Shell. The movies and the series. It is everything we used to do right.

I generally dislike Anime.

However one I was encouraged to watch, by my parents no less, was Deathnote. Which is a real brain teaser.

YouTube comments are considered bottom-of-the-barrel, even by the overall Internet’s standards. Tragic.

Havent seen it. Heard good things about it though. Look up Gasaraki, Vexile and AD Police. Not they typical cutesy anime a lot of people think of. Also Elfen Leid. Actual substance there.

"Cowboy Bebop" is one of the best shows I've ever seen, live action or otherwise. There's a bunch of crap in the anime world, but then, the same is true of TV here in the states.

Recent reboot of Space Battleship Yamato (anime, not the 2010 live action movie) was great. It’s available, all 26 eps and subtitled, on a couple different streaming sites.

Speed Racer and Battle of the Planets, and to an extent Voltron (the lions, not the stupid little clown cars) were staples of my childhood. But nothing could compare to Starblazers, even though it was dumbed down through editing and dubbing from the original Yamato.

Cowboy Bebop was released on DVD this week, and is now on Funimation’s website and YouTube channel. It’s a bit dated (1990s) but is still considered by many to be in the top 5. (It’s noir-ish).

If you like romantic slice-of-life, CLANNAD and CLANNAD After Story are the best. Also online.

If you like SF and mindscrew, there’s Haruhi Suzumiya.

These are all adult seinen, PG or PG-13.
