Wasted youth and the best comedy movies - a minor break from the daily fare(Vanity)
Me | Me

Okay so I recently hired a few recent college grads in technical roles and a conversation was struck up at the end of the day. The conversation was a result of a missed movie reference during another conversation earlier in the day. The type of thing where you assume some level of common culture so you don't have to explain in more detail.

What follows in my comment was the result and follow-on question for my fellow Freepers.

I forgot about Animal House. Dean Wormer gets a whole chapter of classic quotes in that one.

Another brilliant one for quotes that stand the test of time is The Muppet Movie. Just rattle off a list of the human actors with roles in that movie and you can fill an entire block of the Hollywood Walk of Fame with them.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

““Trailer Park Boys” is genius.”

Yeah, but it was all downhill after Corey & Trevor split.

I love introducing my kids to the classics. I had as much fun watching my daughter enjoy "Holy Grail" for the first time as I did watching the film for the umpteenth time.

"The Little Rascals" are still great fodder for quotes and my 8 year old son loves watching them.

Why?

Yes, In Living Color.

“Wrote a song about it, like to hear, here it go...”

“I don’t think so, Homey don’t play dat.”

“Mo’ Money....Mo’ Money......Mo’ Money.”

“I got ‘chu, and I’m ready to go.”

“First of all, we must internalize the ‘flatulation’ of the matter by transmitting the effervescence of the ‘Indianisian’ proximity in order to further segregate the crux of my venereal infection. Now, if I may retain my liquids here for one moment. I’d like to continue the ‘redundance’ of my quote, unquote ‘intestinal tract’, you see because to preclude on the issue of world domination would only circumvent - excuse me, circumcise the revelation that reflects the ‘Afro-disiatic’ symptoms which now perpetrates the Jheri Curis activation. Allow me to expose my colon once again. The ramification inflicted on the incision placed within the Fallopian cavities serves to be holistic taken from the Latin word ‘jalapeno’.”

Well, if we are talking sports comedies, I have to go with “Dodgeball”, just for Jason Bateman’s whacked out announcer, “Pepper Brooks”, with such classic dialogue as:

Cotton McKnight: And the Average Joe’s beat the Germans in a *shocking* upset.
Pepper Brooks: I feel *shocked*.

Cotton McKnight: I’m being told that Average Joe’s does not have enough players and will be forfeiting the championship match.
Pepper Brooks: It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for ‘em.

Cotton McKnight: Looks like it’s gonna be a two-on-one, a menage a trois of pain.
Pepper Brooks: Usually you pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.

Cotton McKnight: Average Joe’s has a tough job, facing the Lumberjacks. These woodsmen probably haven’t even smelled a woman in eight months.
Pepper Brooks: They must masturbate a lot, Cotton.

Cotton McKnight: Oh! Right in the testicles!
Pepper Brooks: Ouchtown, population: you, bro!

No - no argument, haha - I want more movies to laugh at and quote.

Didn’t even rank em by what I thought was funny - just the ones that came to mind from the conversation.

I suppose my typing is a bit curt - likely from RT message writing in years gone by.

After SCTV left the air for good, we transferred our allegiance to the Red Green show, the funniest thing ever on PBS.

"All it takes is a little imagination, some mechanical ability, and neighbors who mind their own business."

“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly”

Reasonable candidate for the funniest thing ever said in the history of television.

That WKRP show is, without a doubt, one of the funniest things ever put on TV. It’s a Thanksgiving tradition at our house.

Carol Burnett once said that if she ever wanted to kill Harvey Korman without leaving a trace, she would put sit him in a chair between Tim Conway and John Byner. Korman would laugh himself to death.
