Why Am I Having So Much Trouble Browsing The Internet? Is It The Things and Sites I'm Visiting?

Two weeks ago, I researched online about what "asymmetrical warfare" is, and then all heck broke loose since that time for two weeks. I got knocked off the internet on the average of every ten minutes, every single day. Internet Explorer had monumental issues, but when I did get on I utilized weather data for my area, then on to FR as usual. But when I was on FR, I would get bumped off AGAIN... I had a tech come to the house to find out whether there was any kind of issue with the internet, and he said there was none that he was picking up--but did say I could just have the internet signal rerouted through the 'phone box' and then through a router I could buy (the previous router was a modem/router combo). Since I have done so, I can now browse and such, but am still encountering a mess of very slow response to search commands, ESPECIALLY when I am seeing to go on to FR.

Install Firefox, then install the Ghostery add-in (free application).

It lets you micro-manage what sites are allowed to collect data or put cookies on your computer. You will be able to see, on a page-by-page basis, the third-party sites that are attempting to access your computer. You will be stunned!

Note: you’ll need to enable at least some data-sharing with third party sites to even use the internet. For example, you’ll need to allow Disqus or Livefyre if you want to read or put comments on sites using these services.

I enable Google Analytics so that sites like FR get pageview credit for my usage (not that Jim R wants to “monetize” clicks or whatever)

Go here and follow these directions. It’s not an instant fix, they’ll ask you to run a few programs and post the results of what the scans find.

They’ll tell you if you’ve picked up something on your machine. If so, they’ll guide you how to get rid of whatever it is.

I’ve used them before back when I had a Windows machine. Takes a day or two and sending some e-mails back and forth.

Well worth it if you’ve in fact been infected.

I have a malware on my computer called Loadshop. My anti-virus program finds it and is able to clean it but after doing so I lose connection to the internet. I have to restore back to the point where I get it back. I have manually gone in and cleaned the files out and the same thing happens.

Adobe Flash does not work too well with waterfox sometimes. I uninsulated it and downloaded a free flash form Download.com that was as popular as adobe flash then when It did not work I allowed adobe flash with each need. I quit getting the unresponsive stall. I also use the free download of SUPER anti-spyware professional and run it almost daily to get rid of cookies. Some sites load a bit slow the first time without the cookies but I get rid of almost 100 cookies with the spyware. There is a lot of good free stuff at download.com

Backup your data...pics, docs ONLY. Make sure you have install discs for your applications then wipe the hard drive clean. Reinstall Windows and never, ever use Internet Explorer again. Reinstall your apps and restore your data. That way you can be sure of a clean system. Also install Avast and Online Armor and USE them.

If you must do such searches, do it from a simple laptop running Linux and Firefox or similar.

I've gone to some of those sites just to see if anyone has the same problem as me when they remove it but no one mentions it.

Yes I use Avast and Malware Bytes. Its also a good idea to go into internet options and delete your temp files, cookies and browsing history about once a week.

If you don’t want the govt to know what you are looking at on the internet use Start Page. It cloaks your browsing activities. Its free.

Javascript is what usually makes unwanted windows/tabs pop up, and I agree, sounds like you have a bug. Run Malwarebytes in full scan, as well get and use one or two other free antivirus programs, the more, the more effective. All it costs is a little time, I use MWB, Microsoft Security Essentials and SuperAntiSpyware. And you might want to try a Mozilla-based browser again, as they are very customizable. Flashblock is an effective add-on, AdBlockPlus kills ads and pop-ups/autorun videos [HATE], Self-destructing cookies is a must, as well as Blur, was Do Not Track Me. Hope you get it squared away pronto!

I have been seeing those Oh Snap pages when I go to Hot Air or Gateway Pundit. I view for a minute or so and then “oh snap” shows up. Now I use IE and maybe Gates &co. are coyly disrupting sites they do not like, but it happens on my Android tablet too. Funny thing is that the tablet runs Chrome, yet when I switch to Chrome on my laptop both sites run fine.

It might be as simple as your ISP upgraded their DNS servers and screwed up. I experienced similar problems as you. When I could get someone at the help center who could speak English and even know what I was talking about it was massive frustration. I went to OpenDns. They have a free option for use at the basic level. Worked like a charm. I recently checked back with my ISP by recoding the DNS settings back to them.

They had fixed THEIR problem. They had insisted I was to blame for my problem but I went back to OpenDns anyway.
