Starbucks CEO: No Tolerance for Traditional Marriage Supporters
The Examiner ^ | 3/23/15 | Victor Medina

Posted on 03/24/2015 6:17:13 AM PDT by jonatron

At the Starbucks annual shareholders meeting on Wednesday, CEO Howard Schultz sent a clear message to anyone who supports traditional marriage over gay marriage: we don't want your business. After saying Starbucks wants to "embrace diversity of all kinds," he told a shareholder who supports traditional marriage that he should sell his shares and invest in some other company.

According to a report by Forbes, Schultz seemed a bit intolerant of any Starbucks shareholders who opposed gay marriage for moral or religious reasons. During the meeting, shareholder Tom Strobhar (who founded the Corporate Morality Action Center) pointed out that after the company voiced its support for a referendum backing gay marriage in Washington state, a boycott by traditional marriage supporters caused a drop in sales revenue.

Schultz told him "You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company" if he did not agree with the company's pro-gay marriage stand.

They cant just serve damn coffee?

Apparently, they're making so much money they don't know what to do with it. Fortunately, that can be remedied.

I actually have liked Starbucks Columbian, would buy it in the store, but stopped buying 6 months ago, preferring Gevalia Columbian. I was in the grocery store last night, noticed that most coffees were on sale, but Starbucks was higher than everybody else, $9.69, which is just crazy. The others may be jumping in to expand market share, and steal customers who are just a tad soured, but with a price drop, more motivated to switch.

I was referring to some colleges and a city inciting banning Chik-fil-a for the founders biblical beliefs about marriage.

Are these IDIOTS running a business or a political campaign? They had better spend their meeting time focusing on why they are losing business.

Has Mr. Schultz--certainly a very successful businessman--completely lost it? This idiocy, coupled with the now abandoned lunacy of having his counter clerks engage their customers in dialogues on race, appear to evidence some form of mental unwinding. Why would a business dependent upon as broad a level of public acceptance as possible, seek to offend large segments of the public?

Does Mr. Schultz, for example, have a family history of brain tumors?

This is not intended to be a cheap shot; but the objection to redefining marriage is not just theological & moral. Marriage is the traditional building block for a rational society. It is all about a constructive culture for the multi-generational pursuits of a people; the traditional family being the mechanism for the passing down of one generations achievements to the next. Is there anyone reading this who cannot grasp the absurdity of the remarks attributed to Mr. Schultz?

Of course, no one should trivialize the importance of race. As Disraeli observed, after all, it is the key to history. But does it make sense to interrupt the purchase of your product by having counter clerks of in-determinant educational level seek to embarrass customers there for a cup of coffee, by offering to engage them in an exchange of racial theories, notions or biases?

Again, my only real point here, is that Mr. Schultz actions--usually wholly pragmatic--have become bizarre.

Me and the Mrs. like our Eight O'clock original coffee. Sometimes the local Giant Eagle supermarket has it on sale two 2.4 pound bags for 17.99.

They’ve never had my business.

I was at McDonald’s a couple of mornings last week, meeting a carpool. One day, there was a group of elderly men having what was obviously a regular weekly get-together. One man said, “I used to fellowship with some guys who met at Starbucks, but I won’t go there now because you can’t carry a gun.” The endless homo-promotion will probably drive away a few more customers.

I only drink the ice coffee in the summer months.

Even here in Maine, it gets hot and humid during the summertime.

Love their coffee, too! However, I buy a can of Maxwell House for less than Starbuck’s probably charges for a serving of theirs- I’ve never had Starbuck’s... Too late now!
