Full title: Is California next? US Geological Survey warns risk of magnitude 8 or larger 'Big One' earthquake has increased dramatically
In the new study, the estimate for the likelihood that California will experience a magnitude 8 or larger earthquake in the next 30 years has increased from about 4.7% for UCERF2 to about 7.0% for UCERF3.

The fact that it is a complex of faults related in most cases to the San Andreas Fault. There were a number of articles a week ago on a “locked up” Ventura-Pitas Point fault that could unlock in an up to 8.0 earthquake. At least a lot of the building in the last several years have been built to a better code than that used even into the 60/70s.

When the 8.0 quake destroys San Francisco, I will just see it as God’s work.
Just joking.
OK, only half joking.

So the likelihood of a large earthquake has increased by 3% over the span of 30 years..... that sounds terrifying! ;^)
