Wow. 47 Major Retailers Announce Closing of 6,000 Stores Across the Country
Conservative Tribune ^ | 5/5/2015

You’ll never hear the Obama administration pass on an opportunity to gloat about the miracles they think they’ve managed to pull off over the past seven years to get America’s economy back on track.

The only problem with that is, it’s not remotely true. Somehow, the spin doctors at the White House always manage to cherry pick rare instances of economic improvement and turn them into something much bigger.

If you want a real indication of how President Barack Obama’s economy is fairing, just look to a recent report that shows a coming “retail apocalypse,” with major retailers across the country planning on shutting the doors to thousands of stores due to a sharp decline in discretionary consumer spending.

They won’t be providing any health care insurance for those employees anymore, so it’s a win-win for Obolacare.

Well, the reasons might be very different. I buy almost everything with the exception of groceries online these days and most other people too.

I think it’s pretty well known that the “Big Box Store” retail model has been suffering for some time as online sales have exploded.

The whole brick and mortar retail model is fighting for survival. Radio Shack closing stores is about Radio Shack and nothing more.

I’m not saying the economy isn’t terrible. But I think that these store closures are more about the dynamics of retail models than about the terrible economy.

Same here. I get truck parts up to 80% less than the local auto suppliers.
Shocks local-$64, online $23 plus a 5% discount, same shock.

All those people losing their jobs will be stimulating the economy through unemployment according to Nancy Pelosi.

Went to Walgreen’s tonight to get some photos printed. Looked around for a couple of items I generally can only find there. According to the manager, Walgreen’s Corporate just came out with a new list of things they aren’t going to carry anymore. Replacements aren’t the same thing but are touted “as good as”. Manager said he was told by their regional manager that corporate stated, “customers will get used to the new ones”. This has happened to me before but we did find the items at that time on the internet so ordered there. And then they wonder what’s happening to brick & mortar store sales.

Maybe important. Doesn’t mean much without a comparison to number of stores closed across the country in previous years.

That and the fact that with interest rates near zero, equities are the only way to get any sort of return.

Many of these malls across the country have gone from centers for major national chains to complete disasters.

They’ve been forced to shut down their theaters because of the crime associated with people “hanging out”. The stores have gone from the national brands to stores selling whatever the latest thug trend may be. The local police have set up “sub-stations” and the any number of government benefits offices.

You can get your taxes done with an instant rebate from “Jackson Hewitt”, get a payday loan or shop at the “as seen on TV store”.

It’s crap.

I can’t blame the national chains for leaving.

The strip malls I see are about 1/3 to 1/2 vacant these days. An anchor store closes and the little businesses are having a terrible time surviving.

Let some smart person figure out how people can try clothes on online and retail will be dead except for groceries.
