Vanity: Random thoughts on July 3, 2015

What has happened to our society when a tiny minority of outspoken folks can mess with our language and redefine words at will? Furthermore, what will happen to the word of law?

1) First, there was the definition of "is”. Remember that? Depends upon what the meaning of is is. A convoluted excuse, if I ever heard one.

2) Even before that, there was the word “gay”, which (over a generation) morphed from a happy word with pleasant, cheerful connotations to one that means homosexual, with all the negatives associated. Gay used to be even used as a name for both girls and boys. (ref. the author Gay Talese and my female cousin who is about 50 yrs. old)

3) According to my Congressman this week, the word ”majority” actually means 10 votes over the majority, or it doesn’t count. He says that there is a little known “rule” in the Senate that allows only ONE VOTE PER YEAR to pass out of the Senate with only 51 votes. Where is that in the Constitution? So, a majority of 100 votes means 60 votes now – always.

4) SCOTUS is confused about the word “State”. According to them State now means “Federal”.

5) SCOTUS also did cartwheels defining the word “tax” in order to support Obama who doesn’t know what “natural born citizen” means.

6) Furthermore, SCOTUS refused to uphold the concept of "Citizenship" as being a prerequisite for voting. What did the Constitution really men, then?

7) And now “marriage” no longer is a union/contract between man and woman – despite thousands of years of custom.

Anyone who says this doesn’t matter isn’t foreseeing the ramifications. How can the legislative body of the US (or anywhere) possibly write laws when any vociferous minority group can change the meaning of the words at will. No wonder my Congressman (an attorney) looks stressed.

End of rant.

Permit me to add one more to your excellent list.

8) A “racist” used to be someone who had racist beliefs. And it was obvious what a racist belief was. Now a “racist” is anyone who disagrees with anything the far left wants. You could, for example, be a racist if the left wants higher taxes, and you are against higher taxes.

I’m sensing a lot of microaggression here ;).

You are saying what a lot of people are thinking.

This country can no longer remain tied up on the beach like Gulliver by mental Lilliputians.

It is really simple. You are racist if you are white.

Excellent! And we shouldn’t forget all of the “micro-aggressions” that have recently been defined by some of our institutions of higher learning.

BTW — that’s not just an example, that is a fact here in Wisconsin. All of the GOP has been “charged” with that.

One of the many lessons of the 2008 election is that propaganda works. The left has known this for a long time. It’s time the right learned this lesson. I am not saying the right should use propaganda. But you have to understand a tactic before you can counter it.

Before George Orwell became disillusioned with socialists, he rubbed elbows with all stripes and kinds of losers.

Orwell writes that the word “fascist” became so misused that comrades were using it to describe slow waiters: “That fascist waiter has lead in his shorts!”

Present day socialists use “racist” and other scare words as if they were children on the playground again, trying out four-letter words for the first time: for the shock value and because they know the rest of us take them seriously. Even if they don’t.
