That’s a good way to go. That way, you’re leveraging each technology to its strength...

It is called a laser printer. I have the same one from 15 years ago still works great. But good to see one of the bog boys dumping the $20 printer $150 ink cartridge.

We got so fed up with multiple inkjet printers crapping out, smearing, clogging, poor image quality, and outright failures that we bought a color HP Laserjet. When the kids went to college, we switched back to a B&W HP Laserjet. Fast, quiet, great image quality, runs forever. Thank God no more ink jets in this house.

I have a Epson XP-620 which I bought for about $100 last year. I have had zero problems with it.

I use refill from http://www.4inkjets.com
Much cheaper then the OEM ink and it does not fade.

Yeah, that’s the thing. the quality is absolutely fantastic. I LOVE what this thing produces. Also, the printer itself is still cheap enough that if it really breaks after a couple of years you can just replace it. Frankly, that’s one of the advantages of the printers being relatively cheap (I paid $200).

If mine died yesterday,I would feel I got my money’s worth out of it. The one complaint I have is that other than black it’s hard to get individual cartridges. And the high capacity are almost non-existent.

I have an Epson RX5959 that I bought new many years ago. It’s an ink drinker but it still goes on strong. When it goes I will go color laser.

I have a Brother B/W laser that works well.

I also make it a point to print as little as possible. Printers are things I absolutely despise.

May have to take a closer look when my HP All in one dies. Meantime for $27 delivered I can get three sets of my full complement of five XL564 remanufactured cartridges with new ink level chips from eBay = 15 cartridges in total.

Interesting new printer technology ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Thanks to Swordmaker for the heads-up!!

“Ink is such a ripoff.”

A lady I know is a big lib, constantly bitching about the evil oil companies and their profits. Finally, I’d had enough.

“Deann. You complain about gas companies charging $3.00 for a gallon of gas and turning a profit of less than 5 percent. But you have no problem running to Staples twice a month and paying $35 for a teaspoon of ink when HP’s profits are about 30%.” We don’t discuss these things any more.

Still not worth it.

My local grocery can produce excellent photo prints for pennies, and my home laser printer can deal with simple color jobs and the toner for me lasts years.

The programmers responsible for shutting down black-ink printing when one of your color cartridges runs dry should all be fired, blackballed and tar-and-feathered.

Ask her how much she pays for bottled water or perfume.

“I’d not touch Epson but they are the only printers I can find at a reasonable price that will print directly on to printable CD’s and DVD’s”

Same here. Only problem is if you go a while between printing the jets get gummed up and useless.

This might be of interest to those folks who print a lot. The problem (as is the case with all ink-jet printers) is that if your printing is not regular enough, your ink can dry up. This really sucks given how much ink costs.

For myself, I print really infrequently, and don't need color at all, so I use a Brother (which is Linux Friendly) laserjet. I'll print for a couple of years or more off one cartridge.

I have a Canon printer which has individual ink cartridges. There is also an additional extra large black cartridge.

I buy my ink from Amazon and save big bucks.
