Did I hear Rush Right? Don't let Trump's views bother us 'Cause RNC said Bush, McCain, Romney OK
September 3, 2015 | Vanity

Posted on 09/03/2015 12:43:44 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Did I hear Rush say that we should be willing to vote for Trump even with all of his baggage and left leaning positions and support for Democrats!?

He said the RNC told us to support McCain and Romney (and I think he threw Bush in there) so we should have no trouble supporting Trump.

That's some kind of rallying cry for conservatives.

So would someone please tell me what Trump stands for (other than saying he'll build the fence and deport gang members), and why (other than you want to believe that he has changed) why anyone would trust him.

I'll give you 2 reasons why I know Donald Trump finds it easy and appropriate to lie. (Current history - I'll leave the long, documented list of his liberal ideological positions aside for this exercise, along with Trump's long, documented list of his support for elected Democrat leaders.)

1. He lied (more than once despite it having been proven a lie) that Wisconsin was doing poorly and that it was because of Scott Walker.

2. He lied about a Walker supporter coming to him asking to take him on to his campaign because he wanted to leave Walker.

And here is a third because it is about FReepers willing to repeat lies about candidates to promote their candidate.

If you believe that your candidate is the best thing for the country, then there should be NO REASON to actively spam threads of other candidates with lies.

Your turn.

I have no use for either Hillary or Jeb, but do you think they are equally bad?

Not equally bad, but John Ellis Bush would bring us down from half a party to zero parties. So, in a way, he is more dangerous. Romney posed the same problem.

John Ellis Bush would be less intolerable if he weren't from the Bush line. Having three Republican presidents in a row from the same family is insane.

I like Walker.

He stood up to the unions and won, that earned my respect.

If Walker's in the mix at the end, I'd surely vote for him.

I haven't seen where Walker is as anti-establishment as Trump or Cruz.

It sure would be nice if people could listen to what is said before they wad up their undies and start screeching about some thing that WAS NOT SAID.

This sire used to be a good site for all around information about many things but it has devolved into a pi$$ing contest among a bunch of emotional whiners that can’t get their candidate accepted by everyone. Hell it many months yet before anything counts so lets be rational and discus instead of screaming.

I don’t pay much attention to any of the radio talkers.

I’m a big fan of thinking for myself.

Walker is a Chamber of Commerce Toady.

To which you have ZERO evidence. Just a blind accusation made against the only PROVEN conservative in the race.

Ted Cruz is the slimy, political two-face who is in the pocket of the US Chamber and his votes prove it.

She must work on commission. Life’s tough for a GOPe shill these days.

At least Cincinnatus Wife is supporting a proven conservative, unlike you.

How does it feel to have Salon.com endorse Trump by saying he is the least dangerous to the progressive cause?

I know that Rush isn’t supporting Trump. He never supports anyone in the primaries and he stands behind whoever the nominee is. But, he does refer to the people who don’t like Trump as the GOPe. I heard him say it yesterday, I think. I have to keep explaining to my husband that Rush talks about Trump all the time because Trump is in the news all the time. And that’s what Rush does.

Don’t get me wrong. I won’t think twice about voting for Trump in the general election, but I don’t think I’ll be voting for him in the primary unless I can be convinced to. I’m in NH, so I get to vote first. :-) I usually vote for the person who gets about 35 votes, lol. I voted for Fred Thompson in 2008. :-)

I cannot for the life of me understand how so many conservatives are supporting Trump.
Tactics.

Same reason you promote candidate x instead of just writing in your own name on the primary ballot. Even tho there is inevitably some issue or nuance which separates your opinion from that of candidate x.

Basically Trump is “not Bush” at this point. I solemnly assure you that initially I was appalled to learn that Trump was running. Thus, Trump’s negatives were stratospheric at that point, for I was not alone. But what has been the effect of Trump’s candidacy?

  1. the wide open border is a serious issue. JEB denies it, but it is so - because, Trump.

  2. JEB’s poll numbers have tanked in tandem with the rise of Trump’s.

  3. Trump is functioning as a tar baby which neither JEB nor the MSM can resist kicking - and, having kicked, look again and Trump is yet stronger. JEB wants to win the nomination despite us, and he is getting his just deserts at every turn of the wheel.
Look, I’m morally certain that Trump will gore my ox sometime. But, we can choose when to take offense - and we can be sure not to take offense until the JEB (and/or Romney) campaign is moribund.

Would Trump be a poor POTUS? Probably. But let’s not let “better” be the enemy of “good enough.” Otherwise, best we can hope for is JEB. And JEB could easily lose to Hillary. But I don’t really think Hillary would fare any better playing “kick the tar baby” with Trump any more than JEB is doing.

I support Cruz in the primary. But if Trump gets it, damned right I’ll vote for him. And with enthusiasm, not the dread I felt with Romney. I’ll actually be voting FOR him rather than against someone.

Everyone should know that you’re a Scott Walker online marketing/promotion hack.

What is wrong with that? Walker has a conservative track record that cannot be disputed.

Cruz is slimy, two-face hack who sells out the constitution for the US Chamber.

Trump is the snake oil salesman who has the cure for everything that ails you. His wagon is moving from city to city and his message changes as needed. Just wait until he has the nomination and he backs out on everything he said.

Rush didn’t tell anyone to vote for anyone.. he never does that. On the otherhand, you are telling who NOT to vote for in every post. Heavy handed.

We are sunk if the next president does not have the guts to stop the carnage... stop the GOP and the dems. Guts to stand up to the media and the left.. and not be controlled by big donors..

Does he work well with others?

so far Trump sure doesn’t act like it

granted Obama didn’t work well with others either ...Instead he ignored Congress and did what he deemed “right” for the Country but I would think that his failure to persuade people will result in a legacy that is soon to be undone

When building a Trump-style empire I think bulldozing everyone to get what you want might work as well as what Obama has done

but if Washington works the way it is supposed to work I don’t think Trump will get very far no matter what his grandiose plans are

Rush is being very weird on Trump.

I believe he likes him for the same reasons I do. Anti-establishment. Anti-media. Big ego.

Thank you! That sounds like a very good assessment of what’s going on. And I agree with everything you said. Although, I’m not sure that the choice will be Trump or Jeb. It seems like there is always someone leading as we head to the NH primaries and by Super Tuesday that person is long gone and someone else is getting the votes. Anything can happen between now and then. And I really hope Jeb does not come out at the top of the pack.

That’s going based on his statements which take no more faith to believe in than to believe any other candidate.
