Date When Celebrated : Always November 6
Marooned Without a Compass Day is today. Which direction will you take today?
How is your sense of direction? Do you often find yourself going around in circles? Do you feel hopelessly lost? Do you know where you are? If any of these questions describe your current state of being, then you are in tune to this special day.
As a Boy Scout leader, this author sees this special day as no problem at all. We'll just navigate the day (and night) by the position of the sun and the stars. We'll use our orienteering skills. And, we will check the trees for moss..... moss grows on the shaded, north side of a tree trunk.
Viewed in another way, being marooned without a compass for a day could be a good thing. Our busy life styles seldom leaves time to relax. We can just kick back and enjoy being marooned. Tomorrow, we can head east when the sun rises. In the meantime, I think I see a shady tree.....
Happy Marooned Without a Compass Day!!!
Today, we also celebrate Saxophone Day. The Saxophone is a classical woodwind instrument. It is an essential instrument in jazz bands, symphonic bands, marching bands and more. It's only fitting that this great instrument has a day of recognition all to its own.
The Saxophone was invented around 1840. It was created by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian musical instrument maker. The sax is made of brass.
Adophe Sax invented 8 types of saxophones: Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass, Contrabass, and Subcontrabass. The first Saxophone ever created was the Bass Saxophone. A 9th type of Saxophone, the Soprillo Saxophone, was invented in 2004. It is the smallest Saxophone.

Wal-Mart Senior Greeter
You just have to appreciate this one. Young people forget that we old people had a career before we retired......
Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn’t seem to get to work on time.
Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their “Older Person Friendly” policies.
One day the boss called him into the office for a talk.
“Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here; but your being late so often is quite bothersome.”
“Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it.”
“Well good, you are a team player. That’s what I like to hear.â
âYes sir, I understand your concern and Iâll try harder.â
Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, âIt’s odd though your coming in late. I know you’re retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?”
The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled.
He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin, “They usually saluted and said, âGood morning, Admiral, can I get your coffee, sir?â
I got an e mail with pictures but can’t post them because they have no link. This is apparently a true story
