Homeless man is accused of collecting submachine guns, silencers and handguns
LA Times ^ | 25 Nov 2015 | Veronica Rocha

Richard Cunningham was homeless. But he wasn’t gun-less, police allege.

Deputies found a cache of weapons at his Harbor City encampment, including: two fully operational submachine guns, four handguns, two makeshift silencers and numerous rounds of ammunition,

It is unclear how Cunningham came to possess the arsenal.

Top to bottom:

Ruger Mk1 .22 pistol with M16A1 flash hider mounted to shortened threaded barrel, probably to mount a suppressor that supports mounting to an M16A1 hider. I don’t see one in the pic.

Piece of crap .38S&W revolver, possibly made by JG (German gun corp).

Three STEN Gun magazines and an unthreaded STEN barrel and trunnion coupler.

STEN Mk1 9mm submachine gun, rebuilt from a demilled parts kit and a tube, mounted with a homemade suppressor constructed from a commercial truck’s oil filter.

Extra STEN Mk1 stock.

Czech CZ Sa vz. 25 submachine gun, with correct sling. Appears to be all original. Pretty nice.

They look like Sten guns, you used to be able to buy kits and plans to make your own.

Thank you.

Explains why the US made one looks like it was stamped out of sheet metal

So, what is the big deal?

Did he commit some crime with them? Just look like some crappy old Sten guns or similar.

Sorry, I skipped over the Cobray 12g flare gun under the cheap revolver.

Hard to tell, but the one closest to the camera looks a bit like an M3 Grease Gun. Hard to believe it is, though.

Now, that is a well stocked safe, assuming another with ammo resides nearby.............

I have spent time with an M-3 and I do not believe that is an M-3.

The grip on an M-3 is all the way back.

One is a Sten Mk III (the center of pic)
The lower is a Sten Mk V

Looks like an oil filter suppressor on the MkIII

The one with the big fat can suppressor on the end and the mag well sticking out the side is a sten. Not sure what the other one is. Stens had the mag on the side so that they could be fired prone.

You’re right about the bottom one being a CZ

They look home-made

Or, in this case, homeless-made.

"Explains why the US made one looks like it was stamped out of sheet metal."

Cost and ease of mass production to replace the Thompson Sub Machine Gun which was heavy, bulky and extremely expensive.

Thank you. I’d love to have one in my “arsenal” if they weren’t Class III with all the BS that entails. Starting with the insanely inflated prices that causes.

An “arsenal” is a place where weapons are manufactured, tested, and stored. Could also be a maintenace depot, but definitely a place involved in manufacture.

An armory is a place where weapons are stored.

This guy did not have an arsenal.
