The wife and I Purchased an electric car about a month ago.
I'm as far as a tree hugger as you can get but we needed a vehicle.
Our son will be starting collage soon so a another vehicle was needed.
Her total commute is close to 6 miles, the car had 2,560 miles when we bought it.
it's a 2012, fairly well equipped with air, power windows, mirrors, power locks, heated seats, etc.
Since the range is only an estimated 62 miles it works for us.
My Car is not restricted on distance since it's petroleum powered so it should work out nicely.
7,750$ for a car that listed @ 23,850 in 2012 looked pretty good.
I had net ever heard about this car it's known as a i miev.

Things have been a bit crazy in the last few years but with the help of God and some Freeper prayers things have gone very well.
practicality and making sense are what its all about for many issues. if it made sense for me to have one, id buy one. personally i have different requirements but i know they are useful for others. i would love better gas mileage of a hybrid, but i know how to drive my vehicle to get the most out of it.
have you found good deals on your led bulbs? i had one in a desk lamp that failed only after a couple years, started flickering.

I’ve been driving a tiny Jeep Wrangler since 2002.
I did a quick search and it's probably as good a bet as most out there and I have some acquaintances that have or had electric hybrids - rode in a couple and have no complaints for the niche they serve. Hope it works out well.

I’m only about a year into the first of them, still have a lot of CFLs to switch over, not to mention recessed lighting incandescents. But for the 15 or so I do have, so far so good.
Lowes and Home Depot regularly run sales on them. I picked up four 60 watt-equivilant spots last week at Lowes marked down from $24 to $14 per. Incandescents normally lasted two years, these say 20+ (riiiiiight .... ) but I’ll be happy to get 6-8 out of them and then anything else will be gravy.
The only issue I see with them is that they don’t dim as low as incandescents would. But thats really it.
I am wondering how their internals handle the occasional brownout/blackouts when a storm comes through and the power may flicker on and off a couple times.
Once UTC decided a loss of about 80 million dollars a years. (for many years) they finally sold them.
The new company went bankrupt in less than a year.
Fuel cells are heavily dependent on platinum which makes them very expensive even with government subsidies.
Subsides, bad idea.
The car needs to warm to burn moisture out of the exhaust that will build up on a short commute, it will rust out.
The engine needs to burn out carbon which can basicly turn into cement without a greater time running.
I could go on but car guys (and gal's) know the technical aspects.
Bottom line, she's very happy which makes me happy as well. ;-D
No oil changes, no gas stations, the only drawback is with such a short commute it takes 15 minutes to get heat, luckily it has a remote that allows you to start the heater or air conditioning prior to starting your journey.
If it's plugged in it uses none of the battery juice so the range is not diminished.
I am curious about how much it will add to your electricity bill each time to charge it?
