In a recent disquieting article for the New York Times, Choire Sicha investigates a curious new challenge for gyms: Some men want to shower and change without ever being publicly nude, and they expect their gyms to build locker rooms that accommodate that desire. Drawing upon the experiences of gym managers and architects, Sicha explains that over the last quarter-century, men have grown increasingly uneasy with being naked in the locker room. While older men generally remain comfortable being undressed among others, younger ones insist on maximum privacy, pining for a way to strip, shower, and change clothes without even a flash of nudity.

I've noticed this. I think it is the self-consciousness induced by the thought that there could be homos watching. One of the side-effects is that lots of kids come to train for team sports at my gym, but don't shower after practice at the gym--or, going by the atmospheric evidence, at any time. They reek. You can tell when they've been in the elevator. This will not be good for public health.
When I was in school, any kid who tried to skip the shower after practice would be thrown in with his clothes on.

The writer is a fag and goes to gyms to check out the sausage selection, period.

If you were a woman in a gym, would you want to see Hillary Clinton, Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopee Goldberg or Barbara Lee au naturel?
Thought not.
I won’t want to see any of them like that. I value my eyesight too much, as well as my sanity.
Well enjoy may be a strong word. But if can’t handle it you don’t belong in the military that’s for sure.
I was stunned when my nephews told me that high school kids no longer shower after gym class. He said they just cake on extra deodorant and cologne so they don’t smell bad.

Guys who get a thrill on showing off themselves naked give me the creeps.(typically something that happens in a men's locker room)
And many woman I dont want to see that way.

Any man who has ever played on sports teams has showered with teammates, preparing for the shock of boot camp and gyms. As a teen I dreamed about showering with the girl’s basketball team. That would have made my whole public showering experience memorable.
Parris Island got me over that.
We failed a rifle inspection one time so they put
all 90 of us in the shower with the hot water turned on
and threw in bottles of ammonia just to make it interesting.
It was Ok though cause we still had ponchos on in August
then we had to do exercises but we were so packed in we
could hardly move. That was the worst day, others came
close but that one lives in my bad dreams after 50 years.
