Do you live in a city? As others suggested, volunteering at a shelter is a great way to spend the day. Also, you can join all our Jewish brethren in going to see Star Wars (or another movie of your choice) and then out for a Chinese meal! You’ll have plenty of company doing that.

I had the unique opportunity (and by that I mean not many others will have the chance) to spend Christmas Eve into Christmas Day at an animal rescue, by request. The sun was long down, and I was buttoning-up the barn for the night. All the animals (mostly horses) were where they needed to be. The ones that needed to be out were out. The ones that needed to be in were in. Everyone's fed. I change the radio to classical (because the animals liked it--what's up with people thinking that horses like country music?) and turned off the lights.
Just then, WFMT in Chicago started playing some tenor singing, "Oh Holy Night." I had beer waiting for me at the farmhouse. I was the only human for acres all around. I just sat down and cried. It was one of the most moving experiences in my life. The music, and the sound of the animals settling in for the night.
I will never forget. And I'm just a guy who people ask, "how come you never got married?" I just reply, "because."
Me too. I think the worst Christmas/New Year of all, was in Vietnam. That really sucked.
I grew up in a boisterous large family..lots of uncles and aunts..lots of cousins....
but I moved to be near my husbands family and there just weren't very many aunts and uncles and cousins for my kids growing up and now that they're grown up, I really miss the old Christmas time...
top it off, my only two grandchildren can't be here for Christmas and my son is going thru divorce and he'll probably be by himself at Christmas since he lives across the state and the pass (Snoqualmie) has been closed off and on....
oh I have all the trappings of a Merry Christmas....just can't get the inner attitude right...
There is an easy cure for that. Volunteer at a one of the kitchens the provide meals to the poor. It makes for a wonderful Christmas. Hope you are able to get out and do that. Merry Christmas to you.

Did a few of those myself when I was in Alaska and my family was in NY and I couldn’t afford to travel home. Not too bad. Went to the movies.
You may be alone but you’re not alone in being alone :-)
I have always been solo for Christmas since I have moved to the middle of nowhere. It was emotionally painful and I’d be glad when that day is over. Later, when people asked how was my Christmas, I’d answer that it was just like any other day. Then I realized, if Christmas is like any other day, then everyday is Christmas for me!
Leave some cheese out, maybe a mouse will visit you!

I venture to guess 1/3 of adults are alone on Christmas or any given holiday. They just don’t say it. As a single parent living away from family it happened to me often. Reach out to others and don’t isolate yourself. Unless you are homebound or military, not sure why you are sounding so helpless.
