Anyone else spending Christmas Eve alone? (vanity)
The Amazing Yet Bizarro World of Skooz | 12/24/2015 | Skooz

Merry Christmas, fellow Freepers! Once again, it is Christmas Eve and once again, many of us find ourselves, for various reasons, alone. Many of us have circumstances that have led to a solo Christmas Eve. Mine: My marriage fell apart in 2009. Part of my agreement with my ex-wife is that she has our daughter Christmas Eve and Christmas morning and she is with me the rest of Christmas day. Not a perfect solution, but I would rather say “hello” than “goodbye” to my little girl on Christmas. That, alas, means that on the Eve of our most family-oriented of holidays I find myself here. By myself. No big deal. I’m used to it and have found I don’t mind at all. Anyone else out there flying solo this evening?

Utter simplicity.

PASTA AND MEATBALLS

Sauce
2 tbsp oil
4 slices onion
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp water
clove garlic
tomato puree
3/4 can water
1 tsp salt
pepper
3 tsp sugar

Meatballs
1 lb round sirloin
1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
1 tbsp grated Romano
1 egg
1 tbsp chopped parsley
clove garlic
1/4 tsp salt
pepper
1 tsp oil

Combine all the ingredients for meatballs except the breadcrumbs, and mix thoroughly. Add the breadcrumbs a little at a time. With moistened hands, shape the meat mixture into balls.

Put a small amount of oil in a skillet, heat, and saute meatballs, turning until they take on a tan color. Do not brown them. Remove and add to the spaghetti sauce at beginning of the simmering stage.

Brown the onions in oil and discard. Add the tomato paste and water, then stir. Add the tomato puree, water, crushed garlic and spices. Heat to boiling, then lower the flame, add the meatballs and simmer for 1-1/2 hours.

My husband, unusual circumstances this year, flew home to be w/ his folks eating LOTS of his Italian mother’ s cooking. Lucky boy. I cook wonderful meals for him & I am having my guilty pleasure food, chicken pot pie w/ a delicious Cabernet! ;) Merry Christmas!

"On a side note when I was a young girl we always went to Traverse City for two weeks every summer."

So did my family and I ... 1966-1971. In fact, I met my very first "real" girlfriend there in a stereotypical summer romance. Ah, the memories ...

Solo this Christmas Eve. Long time friends stopping by tomorrow morning, then church for Christmas worship. Will be spending the rest of Christmas Day with my Brother and Sister-in-law, including a big dinner at their house. Not feeling bad, but it just doesn’t feel like Christmas this year.

I just discovered that a restaurant nearby has a full Italian fish dinner on Christmas Eve. The place was jammed. Only $65 a person without wine, tax, or tip. Wadda deal!

I was happy with a dozen Malpeques and a Hudson Valley sparkling wine.

Maybe next year . . .

thanks, but don’t be. it’s eight years. this is as good as it’s going to get barring modern medicine miracles.

it is not nearly as bad as a lot of our warriors, but it’s no thrill lol.

If my woman didn’t stay by me I wouldn’t be here right now.

God bless her.

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all my friends in FReeperville. I may not be here as much as some but I do enjoy FR and all the people here who still have their heads on straight despite all the craziness in the world. For anyone alone tonight, remember, you are treasured by folks here. Here, your opinion matters. I do believe we make a difference, look a this Presidential campaign compared to the prior one.

I have been alone, not this Christmas but in times past. The one thing we can count on in life is you never know what the future brings.

God Bless you all.

Enjoy the old friends. That is always special. I can’t imagine a child with BPD AND NPD. That is tough.

Even with my four beautiful kids, I feel so alone so much that I need to start to create more of a family even of friends around. Good you are doing that.

It has been a blessing to have old friends back in my life and new young friends. I have some young kids in my life who are just prime. I used to take in strays every holiday. Soon I will do that again for I am, and always have been the biggest of the strays.
