His Fantastic 4 was not bad although it never actually was released.

If you like the genre at all surely you’ve seen the ‘60s Poe films he did with Vincent Price. House of Usher etc...

Nope. Haven’t watched low budget horror films since my early teens.

They weren’t THAT low budget. And I take it your teens were in the 50s then? :)

One of those “holy cow, he’s still around and kicking” stories, lol. How appropriate to hear about this on the day of Merle Haggard’s passing.

How about Mathias Corvinus. He turned 526 in February.

Well you didn’t watch the classics in your teens then.

There were always Saturday night horror flicks.

Some of Corman’s earlier AIP items sure were cheapies, though. Didn’t his “Rock All Night” take place on a single, cheesey, claustrophobic set? Haven’t seen that one in nearly forty years, but I remember its extreme low-budget. At least when he made “She Gods of Shark Reef” in Hawaii alongside that other flick with Richard Denning, he served up some outdoor scenes.

The Poe stuff is good, but I can’t think of a single post-Poe effort that Corman did that I found remotely interesting. When an overt sense of self-consciousness starts pervading low-budget horror/sci-fi schlock, it loses everything I found initially appealing about it.

Every movie Corman directed or produced was done on time, under budget and never lost a dime. The last movie he directed, “Frankenstein Unbound”, starring John Hurt and Raul Julia; was quite good.

I got to meet him briefly once at a science fiction fan event.

Nice man.

About 20 years ago it was...and he had a hot babe on his arm.

Wild.

Coincidentally Corman’s World should be in my mailbox from Netflix right now. Maybe I’ll watch that instead of my other plans.
