Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

I have been generally kind to the Cruz supporters as long as they don’t call me foul names and stupid

I observed that a lot of people on FR hated Cruz the first time he publicly mentioned Jesus. From that point on they found reasons to hate him. Mainly Catholics and atheists.

LOL - It is none of my business how some Trumpsters want to behave. It just seems a little counter-productive when you will want my vote later.

Moral equivalence misses the point. To give one example: Cruz put out an ad in NH that stated Trump had “Made himself rich using eminent domain.” Fact: Trump has not made one single solitary penny off eminent domain.

Please provide a similarly official lie from Trump about Cruz.

I’ll wait.

“TPP was a huge issue”

I never Trusted Cruz.

The way Cruz supported TPA showed who Cruz was to me , a fraud, con man selling out America like all the other politicians.

Trump is the only one I trust. Go Trump!

I read Trump’s books long ago! There is a video here on freerepublic that shows Trump saying the same things in interviews all throughout decades. where is that video?

Trump said the same Things about Japan ripping the USA off then as he does about China today. Factories = production = wealth creation = wealth.China has stolen our factories.

Cruz positioned himself as the candidate of substance rather than symbolism.

We don’t want substance. We want symbolism.

Cruz is a talker. There's some question about whether he can actually get anything done.

It's certainly true that most of what Trump's done so far has been to talk, but he's convinced many people that he's a doer, and Cruz looks like the one contented with mere wordy symbolism.

It's not entirely fair, but when people said that a first term senator probably didn't have the experience to get things done in politics, maybe Ted should have listened.

Ted cruz has shown a despicable selfish narciisistic character that is dismissive of the concerns and even the intelligence of the 10 million gop, voters who selected Trump

He sided with george soros- funded agitators who, shut down trump’s Chicago rally, by piously claiming that trump, incited the violence !
He has repeatedly misquoted and mischaracterized trump’s positions while adopting them into his own

For Godssake cruz, stop lying and attack your opponents on fact and merit
If you can be intellectually honest enough to find it

We figured out why nobody likes this self obsessed prick
After 8’years of a black one we don’t want a Cubanadian version

Iowa.

Chicago.

Glenn Beck.

Neil Bush.

Snarley Carley.

Denver.

Arizona.

Back-room deals c.f., Kasich

Romney.

Cruz could have played this very differently and ended up as Trump's VP which would have made him a shoe-in for the nomination down the road. Instead he turned on the fully nasty and showed that he's unhinged. His close association with the Bushs is also alarming. He's not really an "outsider" after all.

Not really. Cruz is a career government employee. He has plotted his ‘rise’ to power very judiciously. He comes across as more like Hillary than Bill. His thirst for power and his willingness to do ANYTHING to get it are not only scary they are off putting.

Cruz is nothing like the label said. Cruz didn’t even mention the border, jobs, or trade until Trump starting gaining traction. Now he only mentions them in passing. His campaign speech is tired and boring

“Many of these chaps here appreciate Mr. Trump’s angry incoherence. It is reminiscent of the Obama movement of 2008 with a nastier edge. “

Nope.....cant figure out why Trump supporters see Cruz’s as arrogant, self-righteous, snobbish douches that shoot off their mouths but have the IQ of a bumpkin.

Dont know why at all...

(I haven’t read all the comments here.)

While still ambivalent about Trump, I’ll vote for him if he wins the nomination. I would have preferred Cruz, but in the end I will vote for anyone Republican.

While I don’t like to see/hear Cruz disparaged either, I think it might be time to throw in the towel & concentrate on uniting the GOP base.

No you are incorrect.

Are you part of the never trump crowd?

If you are not then just fess up that it isn’t Ted’s time and it is time for Ted to do something that is not self centered

Really? People re lying about Trump???

Oh you mean the career government employee who pretends to be outside the Beltway. The guy who started his career in DC, spent a fair amount of time in the Bush administration, went and got himself elected in Texas and now is supposed to spend his time in DC fighting for Texas. The guy who is a first term senator who has done nothing?
