A Bloodbath of Shows Axed for New Shows to Debut Next Season

It wasn't quite the Red Wedding, but Thursday brought viewers news of more than a dozen prime-time shows being axed to make room for new programs next season.

ABC took the sword to seven series (including country music drama "Nashville" and veteran whodunit "Castle") while Fox is sacrificing five freshman shows, including comedies starring aging pretty boys Rob Lowe and John Stamos.

Meanwhile, CBS is deleting "CSI: Cyber" after this, its sophomore season, thus laying to rest the "CSI" dynasty that encompassed four series during a 16-year span.

The official body count — as well as new programming blood for the 2016-2017 season — will be rolled out next week at the networks' "upfront" sessions for advertisers.

But through a combination of network leaks and networks jumping the gun, a flood of announcements got early exposure Thursday.

I remember when HE HAW came on CBS TV. It was a hit throughout the USA except in New York City and California, so it was immediately dropped to gain the NYC and Cali audiences. It went on for years in syndication as an independent production.

I really tried to like the new Muppets.

It just felt off. All felt, but no Jim Henson.

"Doyle" never hit with me. Another Canadian series, "Motive" bored me after a handful of epis. I'll watch "Murdoch" now and then. I do get the CBC and CTV out of Montreal.

I'm liking "Houdini and Doyle" on FOX, a Canadian/UK series. (I thought the production had a Canadian look.)

Castle was good but they jumps the shark a while back when they have both Beck and Castle shoot the serial killer multiple times and did not kill him off.

Should of ended that theme right there with Castle saying”
“Hey Jerry,...you lose” and then Castle puts the last shot in Jerry’s head.

Having them both shoot the killer like 15 times without killing him was way too campy cheap slasher flick lame. I was done watching it after that one.

The quality of Castle has noticeably dropped off the last few years, this season in particular. I'm not surprised that it was cancelled.

Yep, not even watching it anymore now.

“Person of Interest” is back.

Person of Interest has just begun it's string of shows; which, I believe, will be the final season. They are showing two shows a week, Mons & Tues. This tells me CBS is just running them to get them out of the way, and that this is the end of the series.

I tried watching it once. I understand perfectly your disbelief.

Hogan’s Heroes was cancelled.

I have only seen it in reruns.

It would have been great to see Hogan walk out of Stalag 13. Kinch was the only one to make it. He just disappeared.

"Kinch was the only one to make it. He just disappeared."

Well, I seem to vaguely remember an episode where, because of his code-breaking skills, he was ordered back to England and the rest of Hogan's crew had to come up with the idea of how to get him out without ruining Colonel Klink's "perfect record" at Stalag 13.

I can't remember whether he was "transferred" to another camp from which Hogan's and his crew broke him out and got him to England or he was "killed" when "the car that he was riding in" exploded".

I just got into the Grinder this year, very funny swipes at tv tropes disguised as dialogue.

You must be my twin!”

Probably a lot of people on FR watch the same TV shows. We cut the cable last year and primarily watch ION. All day Thursday they have Blue Bloods, another day they have Criminal Minds, and yet another has the old Law & Order. Tried but just couldn’t get back in love with Hawaii 5-0. Watched the original one years and years ago. Work we do is rather mindless so TV doesn’t disrupt anything.

The only one I watched was Agent Carter. I like Hayley Atwell, and noticed she will be starring in a new series titled “Conviction” in the future.

I didn’t watch “The Grinder”, but it seems strange that a program they ordered extra episodes for in its first season, is now being cancelled. I did enjoy the other series he starred in: “You, Me and The Apocalypse.” It aired in Britain first before being shown here. No season 2 for it though.

Dag Nabbit! I really liked Castle. A little nuts, but one of a very few decent shows.

I feel the same way...but at least the reruns will run forever.

You’d be here all day if I told you the shows I like. I DVR everything. I also grab a lot of British programs via UK torrent sites. The Brits produce excellent documentaries and mysteries.
