New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit
space.com ^ | 07/11/2016

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.

Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. (Pluto completes one lap around the sun every 248 Earth years.)

"The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "They let us piece together the history of our solar system."

...

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).

The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).

"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.

If I had known the Latin word for 'squat,' the school would not be as inviting.

More authentically Slavic, perhaps, but not as inviting.

According to Google, “recumbo” is “squat.” I thought it was “sit down.” Shows what I know!

I've always thought that if God didn't intend for us to be able to do something, we wouldn't be able to do it.

If you accept that He wanted Adam and Eve to be able to sin but didn't really want them to sin then your premise is acceptable. But I could see room for misinterpretation as in someone saying, "Well, I'm able to gun down all my neighbors so ..."

If you mean bookmarks, which Microsquish decided to call favorites, then I’d just remove and re-install Firefox. This time when it asks you if you want to import your bookmarks say “Yes, indeedie I do.”

Or whatever the option is on their dialog.

I see your point, hence line two: “It’s just up to us to be sensible with the facilities HE gave us.”
Then HE slapped those Ten commandment thingies in Moses’s mits as a set of parameters.
HE is one shrewd mover.

I probably see this in far too simplistic a light .

Over here Congress is legislating what kinds of lights we can buy - probably to keep us in the dark.

LOL!
The Mushroom Bill. :)

LEDs are great. They emit heat like a tungsten lamp but burn less than a Compact fl.

Heh, good one!

I’m waiting for DP to get home from the cardiologist and tell me if he’s going on the Cub Scout campout. It will be fine either way, but I can’t plan the weekend for 20 people (that’s including the Spanish choir ;-) if I don’t know.

Ah, he just texted. The doctor diagnosed stress (duh) and told him to go camping.

Linux Mint has Libre Office included (it's a fork of Open Office - there's a long boring story about that which I read and promptly forgot the details but if you're interested you can read through this for the short version.)

For what it's worth I have Linux Mint on my old laptop and a 'test' box that was once a WinXP-until-end-of-support box. Firefox is the default browser and Thunderbird is the default email program in Mint. Mint itself is a fork of the Ubuntu stuff. I like Mint's default desktop better than the Unity thing that Ubuntu uses even though both desktops are forks of the Gnome desktop..

(I know, Greek.. ;-)

I know Greek, but I didn't understand a word of that!

I think it will do DP a world of good to go camping, but I’m no doctor. I just know camping is good for the soul.

Walgreen’s sent me an email saying I have another prescription waiting to be refilled, and it’s the one for my neck. Never rains but it pours.

Nothing on my truck registration, yet, so I emailed the DMV, asking wha’ hoppen?

And State Farm sent me a quote that is almost $20 less than what I’m paying now for vehicle insurance.

And I just opened the last packet of crackers to eat with my tuna salad.

My nose is running, the wind is blowing, and I’m thinking inside is a good place to be.

Firefox should have asked if you wanted to import your stuff from t.o.b.*.

Caveat: I know it does if that other browser is IE. Whether it does if t.o.b.* is Edge I don’t know.

Suggestion: If you remember being asked about importing stuff when you installed it, and since you haven’t really gotten too much stuff into FF yet, try uninstalling FF and reinstalling it to get a second shot at answering those questions..

(*That Other Browser)

Jesus did turn water into wine

Just wait till you run into some superfundie Baptists who will insist that it was just Really Excellent Grape Juice (which interpretation totally ignores the context, but that never stops them)..

If you haven't had the pleasure of discussing Greek definitions with one from that school of thought, you're missing out on a (dubious) experience. My hermenutics prof would cringe.. ;-)

I have the PDF open for the destructions, but what I need to know is how easy will it be for me to transfer my Favorites file? I don’t want to lose some of the items on it, even though finding others again isn’t difficult.

But I need access to some of those sites six months down the road. Or less.

It did, but all it imported was my documents, and not the Favorites. (You’re ahead of me, I see... ;o])

And FYI: My FF is as long as two pieces of string.

The linked page says this:"To import bookmarks from Edge to Firefox, press Ctrl+Shift+B to open the Bookmarks Library. Here you will see an Import and Export button. Click on it and select Import data from another browser."

On my machine the function is labeled 'import and backup' and it's in the menu bar at the top of the box. but it does the same thing. It might be different if you haven't saved any bookmarks (favorites) to FF yet because that ctrl+shift+B technically opens the bookmarks thingie.

I'll check it on my Win10 machine eventually to see what happens there.

Something else to add to my FF. I’m reaching the end of my productiveness for this day. I wish I had started this sooner...
