“You new evil empire has the possibility of becoming an ash hole!”

Hey - maybe obama can set up shop there. Rumor has it that he likes ....

You could use geothermal energy! ... For a while.

The only thing better would be if you could get a photo of the actual eruption.

Maybe I’ll search and see if I can find one.

Good luck in finding one! I have one, of me in Hawaii, but it's private. Not going on the Internet, ever.

The shape of the island according to what I can see on Google Maps (not “Google Earth”) in the terrain view corresponds VERY crudely with the sat. view. (And the photo linked in the OP is REALLY different — looks like there must have been a fairly decent “bang”.)

So, I hunted around, and multiple sources say 490 or 492 ft. elevation. Hmmm... I do find Google to be “off” quite often, sometimes showing lakes where none are, or vice versa, and so on.

More background on the island, BTW:

Which do you suppose was the bigger eruption, this volcano, a few weeks ago, or Hillary on election night?

BTW, it looks like the island is actually a small “peak” in the main crater. Definitely not a place I’d want to build a cabin...!

Today’s eruption was what finally moved me to post a picture. I’m glad I’m not planning a trip to Korea or Japan. If you fly a lot of those routes it can get interesting. Kind of a Asian version of Iceland.

Good photo though I’d just as soon not being the one flying over. It’s a very explosive island in building.

It’s kind of ar primer educating us on the Aleutian Islands, how they are forming and what happens on plate edges when active. Beautiful in its own way and a big warning in another way.

Hillary is still at work and has vented more toxic fumes than nice little Bogoslof.
