The USN usually takes old ships out and uses them for gunnery practice. The cost of repairs is probably more than they realize.
Hotels frequently need major repairs to stay competitive with newer buildings.
Vegas simple tears them down rather than repair.
This is an attempt to get the Fed to pay the bill for Long Beach.
At least, unlike the titanic, nobody thrown overboard will freeze to death...
..let moonbeam worry about it...
Or they end up beached in some third-world country where the locals get twenty cents an hour to break them down for scrap.
$23 million dollars is a drop in the bucket or perhaps more appropriately rust bucket. Add a zero to bring an 83 year old ship up to standard and updating room, carpet, etc.
Chump Change for a State like California.
We currently SPEND $69,315,068 DOLLARS Every Single Day just to keep the 3 million Illegal Aliens in this State.
President Trump should tell California to GO POUND SAND when they call asking for money.
Californians bear an enormous fiscal burden as a result of an illegal alien population estimated at almost 3 million residents. The annual expenditure of state and local tax dollars on services for that population is $25.3 billion.

Years ago, my husband and I toured that ship and The Spruce Goose. Both were very interesting. So glad we got to do that. More of my precious memories. God bless.
Dad went both ways a across the Atlantic during and at the end of WWII. I think she carried 30,000 troops each trip. Sad if she is lost.
I thought the ship was set in concrete
Why try to “save” this?
You can create an actual building and just incorporate parts and pieces of the ship into the decor.
If the ship isnt going to sail, then you are spending a fortune just for it to bob up and down with the tides.
It isnt like it’s the HMS Victory or USS Constitution.
Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!

Dihydrogen Monoxide is causing a lot of the hull deterioration. California really needs to ban that stuff.
Quick, haul it off and cut it up for scrap.
The US Navy is in need of new vessels made from the recycled steel in the hull, and the mechanical systems recast into new operational control devices. And while you are at it, this contemporary of 1938 Chrysler Airflows is probably best remembered in photos and desktop models.
Art Deco is so yesterday.
The guy would have been dead from hypothermia by the time they could get a convoy escort to try to save him, and that was wasn't worth the U-Boat risk.
Sell it for scrap and actually make some money on it.
The steel in that ship would make a lot of razor blades.
