"Charlie Murphy, Eddie's older brother, and a very successful and popular stand-up comedian in his own right has died ... TMZ has learned.
According to Charlie's manager, he died from leukemia Wednesday morning in a NYC hospital. He'd been going undergoing chemotherapy. Family members tell us they're absolutely shocked because they thought he was getting better. "

That’s right, he served in the Navy.
Damn, bummer. He was Navy too and served until 1983, according to his Wikipedia bio. He saw the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, which he described as a “mushroom cloud”.

My brother passed last Saturday at the age of 56 from thyroid cancer. He fought it for 8 years.
I’m one of the pall bearers later this afternoon.

Great strides made in curing childhood leukemia. But when you get it as an adult, it is usually 1-2 years (if that long), then fatal. Prayers for Charlie Murphy’s loved ones.
Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories were classic.
When Chappell bailed on his show, I wanted to hear more True Hollywood Stories from Charlie.

I’m sorry you had to go through that experience. It sort makes one better appreciate the time we do have and did have.
