FULL TITLE: 'Hit me!' The shocking moment an American Airlines flight attendant challenges a passenger to a FIGHT after 'hitting a crying mother in struggle over her baby's stroller'

A shocking video has emerged showing an American Airlines employee challenging a passenger to a fight after allegedly hitting a woman with a stroller on a domestic flight.

The upsetting footage, filmed shortly before Flight 591 departed from San Francisco on Friday afternoon, shows the airline employee goading a passenger and saying, 'hit me'.

The clip was uploaded by passenger Surain Adyanthaya, who explained he started filming after the flight attendant 'violently took a stroller from a lady with her baby on my flight, hitting her and just missing the baby'.

Adyanthaya went on to explain: 'They just in-voluntarily escorted the mother and her kids off the flight and let the flight attendant back on, who tried to fight other passengers. The mom asked for an apology and the AA official declined.'

In the video, a woman is seen standing at the front of the airplane as she is holding a child in her arms.

True enough. We used to travel with three babies. We had a Graco stroller we called ‘The Tank’, which had three seats in it. Going through Disneyland, we loaded that bad boy down with hundreds of pounds of stuff, included big loaded bags of refrigerated food, etc.

Had to check that bad boy, and it was the policy for all strollers, period.

That was one quality piece of gear. Used that for years and gave it away to someone else because after all the abuse it was still awesome.

“...I APPLAUD this guy for defending this woman.

Apparently, he witnessed what happened and was going to make a formal complaint....”
**************************************************************************
I highly doubt that he “witnessed” what happened. Before he boarded, the overwrought woman likely already (American Airlines offers “pre-boarding” for passengers with infants) had entered the aircraft cabin without checking her stroller as required and was in the rear of the aircraft. The gate agent (who has now been suspended - see linked article) was apparently directed to go to the rear and retrieve the stroller to check it in properly. The woman, crying hysterically, apparently followed him to the front of the aircraft (where your gallant, heroic interceder was seated) and continued requesting her stroller back at the boarding door. That is where this video commenced.

Momma always told me that “assumption is the mother of all f**k-ups” and in that is some wisdom. Perhaps your momma never told you that because you sure are assuming a lot.

Too bad you didn't take your momma's advice. Your post is full of assumptions. You don't know what he did or did not witness -YOU weren't there. You don't know whether or not he was on the plane when she got on - YOU weren't there.

True. That’s possibly why she kept up the crying.

“That young mothers crying was getting to be annoying. I can understand her crying but that was way too long.”

I dunno. She’s traveling with twin babies, it appears she’s traveling alone, and probably was on her last nerve when she finally got to her seat. If the lady was smacked with a stroller, which they usually bring on in a folded position, that’s one more thing to add to the angst. I’m willing to cut her some slack here.

Everyone is pig-piling on the male passenger, but we don’t know what transpired before filing began. Maybe he’s the hero by trying to assist an overtaxed lady, and the other passengers are happy to be sheep.

I know that I’ve been subjected to all kinds of indignities from the minute I stepped from the curb into an airport — without babies — and easily could’ve had an emotional episode. Can’t even imagine doing it with kids.

I suspect the era of “sit down, shut up and take it” timidity is - hopefully - becoming passe. The guy is a hero simply in standing up and saying what happened was wrong.

No, I wasn’t there. Neither were you and neither were a lot of other folks stating their assumptions as facts. Please note that where I did not see something on the video I used words such as “I highly doubt” and “likely”.

One thing we can say from the reporting and the video, the woman was in the rear of the aircraft and HEROIC INTERCEDER was in the front near the boarding door. And I do know some things from experience -— I’ve flown many times with infants and know the routines of boarding and seating with them.

It is more nuanced than that. The passenger said that you hit me like that, I would knock you down. More of a statement regarding how the FA treated the woman than a direct threat to hit him.

Flying now is a cattle car experience. The TSA does nothing but protect aircraft from being destroyed by filthy humans. More people die in the US every year in car wrecks or murders than from the sons of Muhammad. Flight attendants are overwhelmed. They cram more people into tighter places to gain more bang for the buck.

Oh please. They were spoken as fighting words not as an academic statement of a counterfactual. And the man rose from his seat angry after saying them. Just as the employee was calling bluff on the passengers threat when he asked to be hit and not making a request for some sado masichism. If you defend the passenger by taking his words literally and out of the threatening context why do you not do the same for the employee...certainly asking to be hit is lierally the opposite of threatening to hit if taken literally? Context and body language and common sense needs to be applied rather than pedantic angles of ratiolization. The passenger was angry at the employee and threatened him. The employee was frustrated and angry back and called out the threat.

In the 1950’s and before there was a common name for guys like you. They were called Americans. But they are in short supply today as is shown on this thread.

In your case I can honestly say “Thank you for your service”.

I didn’t comment on the FA’s words.

I’m still saying things were more nuanced than what you said. I wasn’t there and don’t know the circumstances, but his response could have been understandable if he saw another man mistreating a woman. Or he could just be a jerk. Thus why I described the situation is nuanced.

What I was saying is that the report that the employee was trying to pick a fight with the passenger is flatly wrong. I am reserving judgement on what happened before. My best guess is the employee accidently hit the woman with a stroller and it came close to hitting the baby while he was taking it off the plane. Not sure how negligent he was but it seems the passenger judged he was bery negligent.
