Anyone else done with Facebook?
facebook ^ | 6/4/2017 | self

After so many years, I recently closed down my FB account. Too many people, good or nominal to begin with, become total %&*@!%&^ on social media. Its the computer anonymity, I believe, in many cases. That said, I now have three relatives I am no longer on speaking terms - and why? Because they could not keep their petty insults in check. Few people in FB are ever persuaded by logical arguments and polite discourse.

I find the endless scrolling to be annoying. Free Republic is much more user friendly.

my rules for face book are
1.- I must of met you for real or you are a relative I have not met other wise I wont friend you.
2. post nothing to do with politics any one on face book who does political posting that are liberal in nature will still be face book friends but I will unfollow them for my own sanity.
3.- never share anything unless it of an uplifting nature.

for me Facebook is only about keeping track of friends and family. I get to see my two nieces who have children post pictures of them and every once in a while hear about old childhood friends. if I want to discus politics its in hear at free-republic.

I enjoy posting memes from The Donald that drive liberals insane.

I have no issues; I am very selective who I friend and always have been. I only have family and friends and I don’t discuss politics there as a general rule. I have a liberal cousin that sent me things on purpose to dig at me, I unfriended him and about 6 months later he emailed me to apologize and now he behaves.

There is a lot of news and fake news that just shows up- some spam type stuff and gets people stirred up, I go through and clean them out- use the option to not see things from that site again. It is like anything else if you don’t take out the trash it gets messy.

I only use my FB to keep up with friends and family and don’t try to use it for any agenda. It is what you make of it.

About a year or less ago I googled myself and found my FB photo on My Life - a site that accumulates info on you obstentibaly to help us control what info is out there - i.e. you join My Life and then you can get rid of information about yourself - which is mostly stuff that My Life has gathered and posted.

What a scam! I joined at the cheapest rate - started deleting things and then finally got hold of some foreign person on the phone and demanded to be deleted from My Life.

A lot of what they had on me came from FB and I had thought I had privacy controls on. Now my profile photo is my dog and I put very little on there - just use FB to see family photos that are posted.

I never even gave Facebook a single thought when it hit the scene. I'm a private person, I'm not Lonesome-George, I don't need constant attention and endless "communicating"..... and I have more productive uses for any spare time...mainly in conservative causes and contributing to the dialogue on this forum.

Facebook is an endless gerbil-in-a-wheel looping of banality, narcissistic "look at me-ism"...punctuated by feeble political inanities and idle chatter.

I cherish my antiquated but wonderful avenues of private and personal communication with old friends and family, i.e......via mail, email, telephone and visiting.

I think those of us who spent 20 years on Usenet in unmoderated news groups find Facebook to be an improved replacement. Once you learn to use private, moderated groups and to ignore political posts you disagree with, Facebook works well.

Facebook is very mild when compared with the wild west of Usenet.

Note to those irritated by friends who post political crap: You can stop viewing their posts by choosing “Unfollow” from the pull down menu in the upper right of each post. It doesn’t unfriend them and they don’t know you aren’t seeing their posts. You will still see posts with mentions of you in them and replies by other friends to their posts.

At the end of the day, I’m just a dumb ex-grunt. But I do try to be reflective on what I have done or not done to accomplish my goals. I credit the army’s post-opns AAR procedure for teaching me that, because I sure didn’t think it up on my own. I’m not that smart.

Not sure about what it says about school when you learn critical thinking skills in the army...

I’ve removed all libtards from my friends list and even libtard friends of my friends. Now everything is nice. My page is not a democracy.

Skimming through that thread five(!) years later, I stirred up a bit of a crapstorm. I wonder how many here who defended Facebook then, would still do so now.

Sorry, but after reading the terms of service and finding that all content that I would post becomes the property of Mark Zuckerberg; I never started.

10 months on the wagon. It is a shame that FB became a voice for the libtard/commies and an invasive eye into a person’s personal life.

It’s become one of my primary communication platforms, especially for the SF convention I work on. But I definitely don’t get involved in political discussion on it. There’s no point, something about the atmosphere of FB makes people trench in. And I just don’t get wound up about stuff anyway, bad on the ticker.

I enjoy Facebook for several reasons. I am in old time Grand Prix racing groups and love seeing Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Dan Gurney pictures along with others. Other groups as well, that’s for fun.

The politics is interesting. I do have fun with Liberals. The spammers don’t bother me and the “single women” seeking friends are entertaining. There’s a few comical threads that I do enjoy.

I’m amazed at some of the egomaniacs who continually change their profile picture to gain more attention when their feeds slump. And I’m grateful for the knowledge that I’ve gained by realizing that we have Patriots and Profiteers masquerading as Patriots. It’s funny how they pal up with the military, but opted out of serving themselves.

Facebook can eat a lot of time. Put the timer on when entering....the Twilight Zone..

I have a lot of friends but "follow" only two or three.

Those few are not spammers or stupid posters ....

My page is mine as I please and the ones I don't follow either don't know or accept that they are not followed and it's all cool.

Yep. It's like the letters-to-the-editor section of the newspaper.

I played around with Facebook several years ago for a couple of weeks. I decided it wasn't safe from a cybersecurity standpoint and gave up on it. Specifically,
