Sarah Brightman was supposed to fly to the ISS last year. She pulled out for “personal reasons”. Too bad, she was close to the end of the first phase of training. Wonder how she would have sounded in that environment.

Imogene Heap is very interesting... I first heard her perform while watching the DVD, "Jeff Beck, Live at Ronnie Scotts." The band that Jeff put together for that tour was EPIC! Tal Wilkenfeld (bass), Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), Jason Rebello (keyboards).

check post #258 for her Fields of Gold

I bought Songbird soon after it was released.

Sting loved her version of Fields of Gold. There's commentary from Sting here:

Search the page for Sting.

Enya’s sister Maire Brennan...

I had no idea those two ladies were sisters. I absolutely love Maire.

Well, here are three I would select for country music (with a sample of their singing), and an extra selection I'm including for country Gospel.
"Sweet Dreams" - Patsy Cline
"Tennessee Waltz" - Patti Page
"C'est La Vie (You Never Can Tell)" - Emmylou Harris
"Hide Thou Me" - Iris Dement

Of course, you are right! Julie Andrews should have been included in my previous list. Such a pure, on-pitch voice.

I admire her formidable talent as an songwriter but her voice wasn’t appealing to me.

It's amazing how widely tastes can vary among humans. Joni Mitchell's voice has always touched something deep inside of me. I could listen to her sing around the clock - I love her voice so much.

As a musician myself, I was always awed by her prodigious musical genius. Her guitar work and songwriting were some of the best of the lot during her heyday. She more than held her own against most of her contemporaries, many of whom were ardent fans themselves.

I have to agree...Joni Mitchell is musical genius. And her vocals were always perfect. Night Ride Home album — excellent!

Can’t imagine any man wanting to date Janis Joplin. Talented, but nothing to look at.

I came across Eva Cassidy’s cover of “Wade in the Water” recently. Great song. Bought her version as well as the Ramsey Lewis cover.

Judy Collinsmin her prime was, unmatched in folk. Her arrangements, studio bands, and her pure, crystalline soprano...just magical.

I recently discovered her covers of The Cherry Tree Carol and Riders in the Sky. Both spectacular.
