he manager of the state’s power grid issued a statewide Flex Alert for Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon, urging residents to voluntarily conserve electricity to ease demand on the system.
The Flex Alert issued by the California Independent System Operator, or Cal-ISO, will be in effect from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday throughout California. Residents were urged to set thermostats at 78 degrees or higher, close drapes and use fans to cool rooms, turn off unnecessary lights and appliances, and delay using major appliances until early in the morning or late in the evening.
In response to the heat wave, several Los Angeles cooling centers — including recreation centers and senior centers — will have extended hours Tuesday and Wednesday.

I turned my ac up a degree. Not because of the flex alert but because it was running hard and often. Supposed to be 111 here today.

When I heard this on the Radio yesterday and this morning, I couldn’t help myself from laughing out loud. Why in the Hell are we Pushing Electric Cars when there is not even enough electricity available to conduct Normal Everyday Business and serve the Personal needs of the Citizenry.
I worked in El Centro one summer years ago. Very nice people there, but how they stand the heat...?

My wife and kid are gone this week visiting family and I work from home. Until today it was mid 90’s. I haven’t bothered to turn the air on. Fans and windows.

Great point. But electric cars don’t use the same electricity your A/C does. It’s created by decomposing unicorn manure.
So, if you’re using your electric car in 110F heat and use the A/C in the car, I wonder what the range per charge is?

Before we can have jobs we will need inexpensive electricity. Need to charge your new Tesla? Well, plug it in, but not during prime A/C time. Oh, sorry, thats when you need a charge to get home.

How did people from northern MN or the southern deserts survive before modern heating, cooling. Hard to imagine.

Hot? Ha! 150 years ago residents of southern Arizona joked about tying two thermometers together one above the other to get the true temperature.
And no one had air conditioning, but it was a “dry” heat!
We do all of that to keep from sending PG&E more money!
I have a Nest Thermostat for the ac/heating unit for where we spend 98% of our day. During the recent hot days, the Nest AC control where we spend most of our daytime hours is set to come on if the temp gets over 78/80. The higher the humidity, the lowerer the temp, 78. Yesterday with a lower humidity, 80 was comfortable.
We can also run the fan longer with the Nest via my Chromebook or Android phone.
Sunda, we went to church and shopping after church. We were gone a little over 3 hours. I set the ac to come on at 80 while we were gone. 30 minutes, before we got home I lowered the AC temp to 77/78 via my Android phone.
