A USA Today review of Dunkirk is under increased scrutiny from industry peers for warning viewers that it lacks women and minorities.
Social media ridicule followed the publishing of writer Brian Truitts reaction to director Christopher Nolans latest film, a World War II tale about Allied soldiers attempting to survive while pinned down by German adversaries. The columnist gave the film a glowing review while saying its lack of diversity may rub some the wrong way.

Yeah, the French army had troops from Africa at the time, but this is about mainly the BEF, which was still almost exclusively men from the British Isles, so you aren’t going to see many folks other than Europeans....that’s just how the events went.
God knows a lead actor is absurd to expect.
The idiot reviewers simply don’t want the movie Dunkirk to be historically accurate.
For the “representation” they seek there are plenty of other actual WWII stories demonstrating the valor of women and “minorities” in the U.S. military service. Some have even been done in movie/TV versions previously.
What do you think?
Well that was a comedy, not a documentary. Sergeant Schultz was played by a Jewish man for crying out loud. LOL!
I’d highly doubt these guys care enough to ever have watch any of them.
We watched the whole series again a couple of years ago. The scripts and humor hold up still.
I believe back in those days, most 'Britons' were Anglo-Saxon, not like today.
They want the discrimination that is known as "affirmative action". They would only be satisfied with a movie where the hero is either a black, a woman, or both. To hell with accuracy.
Note that they completely ruined the remake of "Flight Of The Phoenix" this way.
affirmative history
I bet thousands of white guys stuck on Dunkirk beach would gladly have traded places with someone “of color.”
These were English soldiers, and some French, not Americans...
They were all white...and all MEN...
plus most black American soldiers during WWII were cooks etc...
Recall the 9-11 statue and Hamilton.
They want quotas and revisionist history.
Would they have rather had it be “Operation Get Behind the Darkies” in Dunkirk?
I bet "Hoosiers" could never be made today.
No McQueen’s part was a real person...
“McQueens character was invented as far as I am aware.”
Was everyone else in the movie an actual historical individual?
Probably not.
McQUeen’s character was historically plausible. A Japanese lesbian would not have been.
Neither could Denzel Washington or Demi Moore cast as British infantry officers in Dunkirk be considered ‘historically accurate’.
It always cracked me up when they had Kinchloe dress up in a German uniform. Like, who are they going to fool?
So was Colonel Klink, General der Infanterie Burkhalter and SS-Sturmbannführer (”Major”) Hochstetter.
and Hogan’s Heroes was chock full of ...Jewish actors...POWs and Germans...
:)
