People are putting their money where Conor McGregors mouth is.
Though McGregor isnt expected to leave his first professional boxing match a winner this weekend, if the brash UFC lightweight champ is somehow victorious, Floyd Mayweather Jr. wont be the biggest loser in Las Vegas.
Despite the overwhelming consensus from experts that the 29-year-old Irishman has little chance to beat the undefeated boxing legend this weekend, bettors are overwhelmingly in McGregors corner accounting for 89 percent of all action, according to BetOnline.ag and could be setting the citys sportsbooks up for one of its darkest days ever.

Mayweather will earn $350 million from this bout. Don’t you think he would feel incentivized to somehow set up an outcome that leads to a rematch? That is my prediction. Either he loses, fights such that it goes the distance, or allows McGregor to pull some brawling, illegal stunt with the associated controversy.
“The night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting.....”
See what an undefeated record is worth to Mayweather. I think your scenario of Mayweather toying with McGregor so the bout goes the distance is plausible.
I don't believe that for a second. Nor do I believe Conner is getting 100 million. Both are making a ton of money for the fight but the numbers being thrown around by each is pure fantasy and part of the trash talk promotion.
I don’t really understand sports betting, but I would think that all this money on McGregor would cause the odds to change quite a bit. I don’t think bookie make money by picking the right winners or losers, but by having a relatively equal amount on both sides, and making money off the juice from the losers.
One reason the excitement for this bout may be subdued is because Mayweather, at 40 years old is such a known quantity.
It also doesn’t help that at most press meetings, McGregor is wearing a three piece suit looking like a banker or Maitre di.
That is correct. It is all kayfabe. If Mayweather got paid what they say he got paid, he would be a fool to ever box again.
Showtime PPV only $99.99
They are charging $40 to watch the fight at a theater. F that.
The odds have changed quite a bit in the last two to three weeks. They can't change too much more because the bookies are wary of a bunch of late money coming in on Floyd after the smart betters figure the odds on that bet are as good as they are going to get.
When Mike Tyson began his tear through the ranks to become champ, a friend of mine paid $50 (a handsome sum back then) for PPV of one of his fights.
He invited a lot of guys over to have beer and watch.
Just before the fight began, he left to use the restroom and grab a beer. Before he made it back, Tyson had ended the fight with a TKO.
He sat in the recliner with his beer and was pi$$ed! “I paid fifty bucks and the fight lasts 20 seconds and I don’t even get to see it???”
Turned out that was actually worth it.
A few hours later...$0, internet.
Have you seen a close-up of the pinstripes on that suit?! Not exactly banker class there, LOL.
The stock market and boxing are identical. Fixed.
It is absolutely absurd that Mayweather will make that kind if money on something like this. I would not pay one cent to even watch this. Boxing just is not what is once was and probably never will again.
Maybe a banker or maître d' in Leprechaun Town.
Just that happened to my Dad when I was a young boy. My Grandfather, my Dad, and I were sitting on the porch waiting for the second Ali - Liston fight to start on the radio. My Dad went into the kitchen to get a beer and by the time he came back, the fight was over. We weren’t even able we to tell him what happened.
The author has no understanding of how this type of gambling works. Book makers adjust the odds such that it’s all a wash - and then they take their vig off the top. Bookmakers do not gamble - they just manage a pool of money that they take a cut from. Just like stock brokers.
And they laugh all the way to the bank.
