With less than four weeks until the special election and no sign that the party’s besieged nominee will exit the race, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his top advisers are discussing the legal feasibility of asking appointed Sen. Luther Strange to resign from his seat in order to trigger a new special electionMcConnell aides express caution, saying they're uncertain whether such a move, one of several options being discussed, is even possible. Yet the talks underscore the despair among top Republicans over relinquishing a seat in deep-red Alabama, further diminishing their slim Senate majority.

I loved Moore's tweet......Dear Mitch McConnell. Bring.It.On

If Strange quits, can the governor appoint someone to fill the seat?

Can anyone give us insight on the Governor of Alabama?

They haven’t a clue. Strange isn’t an elected Senator. Resigning doesn’t trigger a special election, it just gives Gov. Ivey another opportunity to appoint someone else until the presently-called for election occurs.

I didn’t read the article but, Luther Strange lost to Roy Moor in the primary and I understand Alabama has a sore loser law that prohibits him from being appointed to the office. He would have to win a “write in” campaign to get the senate seat.

I hope so, and I hop she appoints Mo Brooks. People should pressure her to appoint Mo Brooks in case something like this happens.

I’ll give you a drastic plan, if you want one.

It’s McConnells fault. He had Moore under the bus even before the allegations started — giving away the fact that the GOP will not defend Moore, thus inviting unscrupulous attacks led by Gloria Allred and then followed by a band of me to’s who remember something creepy Roy Moore did 35years ago.

McConnell would rather have the Democrat than Roy Moore.

How about just staying away? That would certainly help save the seat.

Interesting theory. Here’s another one: Getting Moore with his baggage into the Senate might trigger a witch hunt for other Senators that have serially misbehaved.

Here in Alabama, our "Sore Loser" Republican Party rule is that if you lose and you then run on another party's side, or run as a write in, you are kicked out of the Alabama Republican party. Period. No funds for you. It is permanent.

AND the head of the Alabama GOP just announced, that the party here had selected Moore due to him the winning the runoff, and they're sticking by the rules. NO WRITE IN.

From Fox News:

The Alabama state GOP could revoke Moore’s nomination, but party chairwoman Terry Lathan told AL.com that idea is “far-fetched.”

Members of the party’s steering committee have not decided what action – if any – to take regarding Moore, she said. While it’s too late to remove Moore’s name as the party’s nominee from the ballot, Lathan could move to have Moore’s election nullified with Alabama’s secretary of state office.

“At this moment, that is a very unlikely scenario, as of today,” Lathan told AL.com.

Yanking the nomination would be a blow to members of the party who backed Moore and could cause a rift within the state GOP.

Steven Taylor, a political science professor and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Alabama’s Troy University, noted to Fox News that stripping Moore of the nomination could also present legal issues and speculated that the party isn’t willing to go that route.

It’s either Roy Moore or a RAT. Those are the two choices.

And I stand with Roy Moore.

As far as I can tell, the top Republicans are desperately trying to do exactly that. Moore is in their way.

Yes, if Moore wins and they try to throw up an ethics roadblock, it would only serve to create a boomerang that would blow up in their face, given all the skeletons that would come to light in the process.
