The chant boomed out early in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and then again late, and a third time even later for good measure. And although its enough to trigger a collective gag reflex in 39 states plus several U.S. territories, its a fact-based champions chant. S-E-C! S-E-C! the Alabama fans thundered, when the final score of the Rose Bowl was announced and league brethren Georgia had advanced to the College Football Playoff title game.

It means that UCF beat the team that beat both of the playoff contestants. And they beat them on a neutral field.
UCF is so fast I think they’d take them both down.
EXACTLY!!!
They should not be eligible to be ranked in the FBS if they are not eligible for the Championship!
“I think we should just rename the NCAA playoffs the Nick Saban Invitational”
My husband already calls it the Alabama Invitational.
Had the AAC not taken the deal, none of us would be talking about UCF today. They have already benefitted from the money flowing from the deal.
It is a great opportunity for change, but you play and are judged by the rules as they are, not what you wish them to be.
Auburn beat the snot out of Georgia in the regular season.
Auburn dominated Alabama in the regular season.
Then Georgia beat Auburn convincingly on a neutral field.
Too bad we cannot count the total points scored between the 8 quarters. Auburn still scored more, but it matters not.
The only thing all this whining about someone's schedule accomplishes is to show you up as a whiner. Bama schedules about the biggest names of any school for their opener each year, year after year.
And it's just plain silly to constantly whine because the SEC plays eight, rather than nine conference games each year. A ninth SEC game would, on average, make little difference in the strength of schedule, especially for the stronger teams in the conference.
Because last year is the same as this year. And the committee screwed Big10 last year by not taking their champ.
Dabo coached at Bama from 95 to 2001. He was fired in the wholesale Mike DuBose debacle. After that his entire career has been at Clemson. He never coached for Saban.
As a Bama fan I agree with that statement. Bama IS the best team in the land and would still be in the championship game even as a "Wild Card" team in an 8 team playoff.
That said, the Auburn team that beat GA and Bama, is not the same team at all that lost to GA and UCF. Bama ended the year for about 5 key starters.
UNLV plays in the same conference with Fresno State who they beat and which played Alabama this year, San Jose State (who Alabama has previously played), San Diego State (which beat Stanford this year), Utah State, Air Force, Nevada, New Mexico and BYU and Hawaii.
Mercer is not even in Division one football, which Alabama played. As is The Citadel, which Clemson played and Alabama will play next year. If you can’t even schedule a Division 1 opponent, you shouldn’t be playing the game.
OSU’s 2015 team was even better than 2014 National Championship team that beat consensus No. 1 Alabama, and didn’t get into the playoff because of one loss. Alabama is going to have a lot of weaker teams coming up in the future since his locking up the top recruiting classes year after year is over.
2018 Class Recruiting Rankings
1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. Texas
4. Penn State
5. Alabama
Why not 16 or 32?
You people ruined the whole history of bowl games.
UCF plays nobody.
The SEC is the dominant Conference and will continue to be.
Your wet dreams of the SEC failing are done...again.
P.S. “What do you expect.”, should have a question mark. Just what I expect of non-SEC people.
Yep they play nobody...like Auburn. Just crappy SEC teams (and win). Who did Auburn beat this year? Just more nobody’s from the SEC like Georgia and Alabama.
I agree SEC is way overrated and the playoff has to be rigged to help them out.
If they are overrated, why did they beat OU and Clemson?
Who do you think is better?
That’s what the SEC does. They don’t play out of conference challenging teams, but they claim SEC is so tough that is all they need to prove themselves.
But in reality, the SEC is pretty weak overall. I don’t think they will even finish at .500 in bowl games against non-SEC teams. That’s disgraceful for a conference that is supposed to be the best. Hell their #1 team going into the last week lost to UCF! What conference are they from again?
The only reason a 2 loss Auburn was #1 (or was it #2) was so that when if they lost in the SEC title game the winner could claim they beat the #1 team in the country. They do this throughout the year. I remember last year Miss St moving up like 10 places because they upset another SEC team. And ESPN couldn’t have a top 4 team NOT be an SEC team so they moved up 10 spots!
This is crap like Hillary and the DNC pull to win elections. It is what it is though and most people can see what’s going on (except the willfully ignorant).
ACC, Big12, and Big10 are clearly more challenging conferences.
And if the committee wasn’t bought and paid for by ESPN they wouldn’t have 2 teams in the finals. Hell they’d be lucky to have one. But just like we are used to the garbage the Clintons pull with the DNC to win elections, I’m used to this crap from ESPN and college football.
I mean if you’re going to base this off one game, then you have to agree UCF is the best and is #1. They beat Auburn who beat Georgia and Alabama. And no one else beat UCF. Does that make the Atlantic Coast conference the best though?
Honestly the SEC is about like the PAC12. Decent but not really on par with the likes of the Big10.
OSU who lost to Oklahoma by 15 and Iowa by 31?!?
UCF has to win one or two decent games a year, they deserve nothing.
Alabama and Georgia who lost to 4 loss Auburn? The same Auburn who lost to UCF. See how that works?
UCF hasn’t beat a decent team all year I know. Auburn may be their 3rd or 4th toughest team, but that’s not saying much.
Iowa is from the toughest conference in college. They’d be #1 or #2 if they played in the SEC.
