MATTAWAN, Mich. — Sandbags were holding back floodwaters in parts of Michigan as a storm system moved across several Midwest and Great Plains states on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain, snow and ice to the region.

The weather has already been blamed for hundreds of car crashes and several fatalities, including the deaths of four people in a crash along a slippery interstate in Nebraska.

It’s called ‘winter’ in the Midwest. Winter freezing interferes with drainage.

Before drain tiling, huge chunks of America from Ohio to Minnesota to the Gulf Coast were wetlands (that means prone to flooding).

Around here (just south of Cleveland), the forecast is for rainy weather until Sunday afternoon. As happens just about every year in late winter/early spring, there will be flood areas.

I hope and pray that people and property stay safe.
Having stated that if it were California there would
be a few posters asserting that God is punishing ALL
of us for our evil ways.

Yup. Been a cold one. Two below zero on the way in this morning. Butt, up in the 30’s for the forseeable future.

I was born & raised in that area (Monroe). I retired and moved to Arizona. I recall the annual flooding of the Raisin, sometimes requiring explosives to break up the ice dams to release the water flow into Lake Erie.
