Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer say that bacon acts as a bit of a double whammy in that it is both a red meat and a processed meat.
In a question-and-answer session, a committee of scientists from The World Health Organization explained how exactly red and processed meats are carcinogens.
According to the most recent estimates by the Global Burden of Disease Project, an independent academic research organization, about 34,000 cancer deaths per year worldwide are attributable to diets high in processed meat, scientists said, adding that diets high in red meat could be responsible for 50,000 cancer deaths per year worldwide.

Everyone who eats bacon will die!
Who funded this research, CAIR?
let’s see.
non-GMO tofu
Bacon

bacon
Decisions, decisions
So what? What sane person would want to live their life without eating bacon?
AHA! Was wondering what to have. I will prepare myself a BLTA for my bedtime snack. Thanks for the post.
bacon is delicious but it is obviously unhealthy,
“Processed meat” is loaded with preservatives such as sodium nitrate and sodium nitrite. I believe that these are the primary culprits. I only eat “unprocessed/uncured” meats and mostly organic or non-GMO foods (NO preservatives in anything). My health is much better and the food allergies that I developed in my 40s are greatly diminished.
Stopped taking it seriously at the word “International”, then really LOLed when I reached “World Health Organization”. Just need PETA for the trifecta.
IOW.. It’s BS.
I read an article this morning about how pork fat was good for us. Now here’s an article tonight claiming bacon is going to kill me. Good thing I only eat bacon when I’m reminded of it.
If bacon causes cancer, then everyone who eats bacon would develop cancer. Thats not happening, so the most they can say is that bacon can be a factor in sone people developing cancer.
You can get bacon without nitrates. It just spoils faster.
I don't care what they say, bacon makes me happy!
What the hell, do you want to live forever?
But the healthiness of the pork fat offsets it, so lets just call it even.
Nitrates cause cancer is doubtful.
Cancer. So what. As long as it doesn’t cause global warming. That would be the game changer.
